ECRL Launches New Website

We are proud to announce the launch of our newly redesigned website. On behalf of all of us here at East Central Regional Library, welcome! Our old website served us well, but technology continues to develop and with this redesign we will be able to take advantage of the most current tools to share the services and resources available at East Central Regional Library.

On our new homepage visitors will find:

* easy access to all of ECRL's social media sites including Facebook, Twitter & Pinterest with a simple click
* the ability to sign up with just a few key strokes to ECRL's monthly online eNewsletter, E-Connnect
* the option to Ask a Librarian (a live interactive chat service that allows you to converse with a librarian in real time. A librarian is available 24/7 to answer questions)
* a "Featured Resource" at the bottom of the homepage to learn more about what ECRL has to offer
* how to put a hold on a book or checkout an eBook by going to Quick Links at the bottom right hand of the homepage and choose the appropriate link

Another new feature of our website is the ability to find out what is happening at all East Central Regional Library branches or just a specific one. By simply choosing the "Events" option at the top of the page, you can see a color coded calendar listing author visits, storytimes, book clubs and more. Just want to know what's happening at "your" library branch?  Go to "Locations" - choose your branch library to see a calendar, listing ONLY the events happening at that particular library.

Take a few minutes and explore all the options our new website has to offer including an exhaustive list of databases you have access to; what book club kits ECRL owns; and even make a suggestion online for an item you would like the library to purchase (click Resources, the purchase suggestion) and lots more. Check it out!
Once Upon a Reader:  Minnesota Libraries Bring Young Children and Books Together

Once Upon a Reader is a Minnesota one-book program designed for pre-K children and their families that b egan  in 2015.  The focus of the program is  to promote Minnesota children's literature and authors and encourage families to talk, sing, read, write, and play together - five important practices that build early literacy skills.

Public libraries throughout Minnesota including all East C ent ral Regional Library branches will be participating in the 2016    Once Upon a Reader program, engaging young children with books, music, and original programming by Minnesota artists during the months
of March and April. Once Upon a Reader is sponsored by the Coun cil of Regional Public Library System Administrators ( CRPLSA) and funded from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The book chosen for the 2016 Once Upon a Reader program is Ten Pigs: an Epic Bath Adventure by Minnesota author and illustrator, Derek Anderson. Mr. Anderson will be bringing his traveling "Ten Pigs Trunk" show to the Pine City, Princeton and Wyoming ECRL branches. the book has also been selected as a finalist for the 2016 Minnesota Book Award in Children's Literature.

The remaining eleven ECRL branches will be celebrating the Once Upon a Reader program with the reading of Ten Pigs: an Epic Bath Adventure by Derek Anderson followed by a delig
htful, interactive, original puppet show designed and performed by artist, author and puppeteer, Anne Sawyer-Aitch based on her book Nalah and the Pink Tiger. Throughout the months of March and April all ECRL branches will host these special events along with other programs and activities.

Once again all children enrolled in Head Start in Minnesota will receive a paperback copy of Ten Pigs: an Epic Adventure by Derek Anderson. Books will be distributed to over 500 Head Start children in Aitkin, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs and Pine counties and the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibway. This year ECRL also earmarked money from its Legacy funds to purchase a paperback book to be distributed to every licensed daycare provider and center in our 6 county-region as well.
