Now that snowflakes, rather than golf balls, are the only things flying through the air at local golf courses - and your golf clubs will be packed away for the winter - what is there for golfers to do for the next couple of months?
Here's one suggestion: find a warm, comfortable chair and read a golf book! Golf is one subject that has spawned thousands of book titles, including everything from instructional how-to volumes such as Jack Nicklaus' "Golf My Way," to memorable accounts from the long history of the game, such as Mark Frost's "The Greatest Game Ever Played" - and many, many things in between. Among those many titles, most golfers have their own, personal favorites - and this is the time of year to catch up on your golf reading list!
Throughout the year, the Rochester District Golf Association continually strives to expand and update our RDGA Golf Library and Museum . We already have a wide variety of golf books in our collection, including those seen in the above photo, but you can help us build our library into a go-to resource of golf information in the Rochester area by donating any golf-related books - from coffee table picture books, to instructional manuals, to biographies and historical books.
We are also looking for any memorabilia, photos or tournament mementos. Do you have an old scorecard from a tournament you won; a photo of a relative who won a District Junior title years ago; maybe even an invitation for a tournament you played in? If you're like the rest of us, you probably have a collection of items such as these saved from past RDGA tournaments stored away that probably haven't seen the light of day in years. If that's the case, consider donating it to us as we continue to grow our museum collection.
If you have any golf books, memorabilia or photos that you would like to donate to the RDGA, feel free to drop them off at our offices, located in the Brighton Campus Park at 2024 West Henrietta Road, Suite 5H, Rochester, NY, during regular business hours from 9 a.m to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday - and we will be happy to provide a printed receipt of your donation for tax purposes. And, while you're here, take a look at our library collection!
