NEW at the Center
The Center for Art in Wood has been awarded a grant by the Philadelphia Stewardship Program for a risk assessment survey. Working with a consultant from the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts, the staff will identify potential risks to the facility and draft an comprehensive emergency preparedness plan.
This survey will encompass man-made (theft, arson, etc.) and natural (weather, flooding, infestation, etc) threats. When we complete this program, we will be qualified to apply for a matching grant for the purchase of emergency supplies as well as disaster training for staff. This is a huge step for the Center, and we could not be happier with this news.

Reed Hansuld- Excerpt
" A lot has changed since those tentative first weeks. Although I still search for more meaning in the work I choose to make I have been learning (at times the hard way) to embrace the playful space that exists in the uncertainty. I would like to thank the other Windgate ITE residents, they dared me to work beyond my place of comfort, largely on my approach to making as a whole. It has been a refreshing experience, and a longed for challenge that commissioned furniture work had not been satisfying. It will continue on long after this residency concludes, it is not something that can be fabricated, but an understanding of ones self and why we choose to make."

Many faces of the Center
Levi Landis
We are happy to announce a new addition to The Center for Art in Wood family! Levi Landis was hired at the beginning of the month as the Director of Business Operations, an entirely new position at the Center, and one that is graciously funded by the William Penn Foundation. In his new role here, Levi will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Center. This includes financial, strategic, and capitalization planning as well as human resources.
Levi has worked as a nonprofit executive for over 10 years; his most recent tenure being the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Folksong Society. There, he led the folk arts nonprofit during it's historic 50th Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival as well as overseeing the daily educational programs, classes, retreats, workshops, and other programs for nearly 100,000 individuals annually. Levi spearheaded the PFS partnership with 2nd Street Festival in Northern Liberties and oversaw an increase of over 1,000 new and diverse members in the organization. He holds a master's degree in public administration from Villanova University.
In addition to his direct professional work, Levi volunteers on a number of nonprofit Boards and helps consult start-up and transitioning organizations. Levi lives with his wife Hannah in Center City and enjoys composing and performing music, creative writing, graphic and sound design, theater, and cooking.
