How Can "We the People" Unite?
First Step, the Caucus

This past October 17, a minimum of 12 conservative groups worked together to hold caucuses in 9 locations across the state of North Carolina. This was a project that required months of preparation, numerous meetings between the caucus leaders and high levels of cooperation.  The spirit of cooperation, trust and mutual respect is alive and growing among these groups.
 
The caucus concept can be applied to local, district, statewide or national primary elections to narrow the field when many candidates are competing for the same office. Recent elections have revealed that 60% or more of voters in Republican primary elections self-identify as conservative. So why do Establishment, big government Republicans continue to win elections? Only by dividing the conservative vote.

A race with 3 conservative candidates and one big government Republican will result in a big government Republican win.  Applying the caucus concept before the primary, can unify conservative support behind one conservative candidate instead of splitting it among many.

Result: We win.

Legislative Update

Bill To Suspend Refugee Program
 
Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX; 67% Conservative Review score, 77% Heritage conservative score) intdroduced H.R. 3314 to suspend admission into the U.S. of refugees until the dfGovernment Accountability Office provides a thorough assessment of the cost`s of the program on federal, state, and local governments. It provides that DHS may not admit refugees until Congress passes a joint resolution giving DHS authority to resume admitting refugees. It orders the U.S. Comptroller General to submit a report in 90 days that includes detailed information about the cost of refugee program including percentage of refugees receiving various benefits after 2, 5, and 10 years of admission.
 
H.R. 3314 has 79 co-sponsors, including NC Reps Walter Jones (R-NC-3; 74%CR, 90% H), David Rouzer (R-NC-7; 67%CR, 79%H), and Mark Meadows (R-NC-11; 96%CR, 86%H)

Support Grows For Rep. Babin Plan To Defund Syrian Refugee Plan
 
Seventy-four of the 246 House Republicans signed a letter written by Rep. Brian Babin to House Speaker Paul Ryan. The letter urges Ryan to include in the 2016 Appropriations Bill language to restore Congressional authority over the refugee program. Appropriations for the FY ending 9/30/2016 end on December 11th.
 
The language would prevent federal funds from being used to admit into the U.S. refugees from Syria, the middle east and north Africa until specific conditions are met.

Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC-3) separately sent a letter to Speaker Ryan urging him to include language in the 2016 Appropriations Bill to defund the president's 'refugee' resettlement program.

The Heritage Foundation has a good  summary the refugee situation . It distinguishes between refugees and economic migrants. The U.S. should focus on those residing in refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey. Economic migrants are less likely to spend months in refugee camps. Instead, economic migrants are more likely to continue on to Europe for free lodging, health care, and other services.

For the current fiscal year (10/01/2015 through 9/30/2016), appropriations end in a few days, on December 11.
 
Congress is, again, playing rope-a-dope with us, waiting until the last minute when it will spring and pass a another incomprehensible 2016 appropriations bill. Tell congress to get on the ball and present us with a frugal appropriations bill (that includes the defunding of Obama's Syrian refugees) and time to read them. Eleventh Hour, massive ("omnibus") bills are nothing more than a way to bamboozle the American People in order to fund the Corporatists' projects. We are no longer buying the insulting lie that "It was the best we could do with the time allowed!"

Meet a Member - Terri Cochrane

Terri Cochrane is someone you should know. Terri is one of the earliest members of Moore Tea Citizens, having joined with her husband, Bill, very shortly after MTC was organized in 2009.
 
Terri was born in Charlotte but spent most of her adult life in Atlanta where she worked as a pre-school teacher and raised three sons. Terri and Bill recently visited their son and daughter in law and their new grandchild in Australia. Terri and Bill also have a son that lives in Atlanta. Many of us at MTC have fond memories of their third son, Billy, who unfortunately is no longer with us. Billy participated in many, many MTC activities and events and his energy and enthusiasm is sorely missed.
 
Terri now lives in Southern Pines with Bill and 
their two pets, a dog appropriately named Reagan and a cat named TC (short for Top Cat, of course).
 
Terri's hobbies include mahjong and reading and she enjoys walking Reagan at the dog park.
 
Terri believes that the most pressing problem facing us today is the loss of moral principles and values. What Terri appreciates the most about MTC is the camaraderie and the support of like- minded people.
 
It is always a better meeting or event when Terri and Bill are there.

This month, our featured speaker will be Tami Fitzgerald, Executive Director of the NC Values Coalition . Mrs. Fitzgerald will give us an update on the status of religious liberty in America. You will also have a chance to hear from three candidates: Frank Roche and Kay Daly , Republican Candidates for US House; and State Sen. Buck Newton (R), who is running for NC Attorney General. Please be sure to RSVP online for the meeting.
 
Also at our December meeting, make sure you get the ol' pipes warmed up, as we will have a few sing-alongs! We will belt out some Christmas Carols, both traditional and politically incorrect, so be ready to let your voice be heard...literally! In addition, we will have a Christmas Constitution Quiz trivia contest, so be sure to bone up on our nation's governing document!

2016 Candidate Filing Period 

As a friendly reminder, the filing period to run for office in 2016 ends about two weeks, on Dec 21. You can find more information about filing fees, available seats, and other details at the Board of Elections' website here . We need a constitutional conservative running for every available seat, so please consider filing to run for office. In Moore County alone, you can file to run for the following offices: NC State Senate District 29, NC State House Districts 52 and 78, County Commissioner Districts II and IV, and Board of Education Districts I, II, IV, V and one At-Large seat. (The filing period for one seat on the Moore County Board of Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors will be June 13 - July 1, 2016.) If you are a licensed attorney, you can file at the State Board of Elections in Raleigh to run for District Attorney or one of three District Court Judge seats in Moore County. In addition, you must also file at the State Board of Elections if you plan to run for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, all State executive officers, United States Senator, United States House of Representatives, and all statewide judicial contests.

Clarification of Two Issues of
TED CRUZ for President Campaign

With the recent straw poll by the North Carolina
Tea Caucus, which  selected  Ted Cruz for President, two issues have been brought to my attention that concern a few folks.

The most basic concern is that Ted Cruz was born on Canadian soil, not within the borders of the USA. Cruz, who came to the U.S. at age 4,  is a citizen by birth because his mother was a U.S. citizen when he was born. For that reason, legal scholars argue that he can be president. In 2013, Sarah Helene Duggin, a Catholic University law professor, wrote: "There is a strong argument that anyone who acquires United States citizenship at birth, whether by virtue of the 14th Amendment or by operation of federal statute, qualifies as natural born."

The second issue confusing some of the public is the H-1B Visa which is under the jurisdiction of the USCIS or the US Immigration Service. Senator Ted Cruz likes the concept of qualified persons coming into the U.S. and filling jobs in corporations that have specific needs and can meet the requirements to obtain visas to fill specific jobs for specific corporations. His rationale is that it keeps those corporations in the USA, not relocated overseas. (Hear more about this on YouTube, Cruz interview with Laura Ingram, 11/11/15.)
 
 Corporations twisted the "needs" aspect of the law and started to abuse the intent by bringing in people who don't always meet the criteria and shoved out high income American workers, replacing them with less costly immigrants: advantage Corporations; loss: intent of the law. Senator Cruz jumped on the abuse and moved to correct it along with Senator Jeff Sessions, a Republican Senator from Alabama. If you visit the USCIS's website, under "Understanding H-B1 Visas", you will see the law is very clear on the requirements, but the enforcement becomes key.

Climate Change - The Anti-Science

We are continually bashed by Warmists with dire predictions of doom as a result of man-made global warming sinking cities, horrific hurricanes, devastating drought. A rational person would guess that, if data were to emerge that warming is NOT occurring as predicted, they would be celebrating! Our precious earth is saved! But no, the Warmists are actually doubling down.
 
As a physician, I was taught the scientific method. No matter how many observations appear to support a theory, all it takes is one contradictory fact to render that theory invalid. Well, here are several. Warming theories have not predicted the 18-year pause in the rise of global temperatures, as most accurately measured by satellites. If you look at the entire 37 year history of satellite data, the trend shows a rise of 1ยบ Celsius per century. That is one fourth of the rate of rise predicted by Warmists' theories. In a few years this difference will be statistically significant; how will the Warmists explain their failed computer models then? We've learned that ground measurements of temperature are inaccurate because thermometers that were once in a pristine meadows are now surrounded by four lanes of asphalt and plumes of air conditioner exhaust, as rural areas have become urbanized. The latest satellite measurements show that the volume of ice in Antarctica has actually been increasing every year. This was certainly not predicted by warming theories. What's a Warmist to do? Why, propose ever more convoluted, never heard of theories to show warming is not apparent because all that heat they know is somewhere was being surreptitiously absorbed by the oceans all this time. They just didn't think of this until now. And if that doesn't pan out (the deep oceans are not warming), Warmists have a bag full of other ideas. Do we not reach a point where it is simpler to consider--just consider--that anthropogenic warming is not happening?
 
In medicine, drugs first tested in small groups of patients may show a wonderful benefit with little side effects. When the trial is performed on a large population, however, it is not uncommon for these benefits to disappear and previously unknown side effect to become apparent. Obviously, the initial study was inaccurate due to its small sample size. But do we then modify the data and twist the methods of the larger study to try to have it reproduce the results of the initial study, just to doggedly prove that the first study really represents the truth? Of course not (well, if you're Big Pharma, you might). No, you propose a theory. It gets shot down. You discard it and move on.
 
Why is this not the case in climate science? An observation was made of a short-term rise in global temperatures and a steady increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide. I refer to the infamous hockey stick graph that started all this, whose shape is actually contingent on measuring the relative thickness of 1,000 year old tree rings from a select grove of bristlecone pines, high the mountains of California, to establish the baseline temperature of the entire northern hemisphere to within half a degree Celsius (yes, this passes for climate science.) Anthropogenic Global Warming was proposed to explain a possible cause and effect. Fine, but as more robust data is gathered using more objective methods of temperature measurement, they will likely show that, in the larger context of time, the initial observation was a fluke, that no correlation between warming and CO2 is found. Why can't Warmists simply say, as Emily Litella would have, "Never mind."
 
The satisfying fact about all these global climate theories is that in our lifetime, maybe in only 10 or 15 years, we will know who is right.

The first is the Gun Ban Zone section that lists Moore County sites where you are not allowed to carry your otherwise lawfully carried personal defense firearm, and form where you can tell our Webmaster about places you've found that ban guns.
 
The second is the "Ruling Class Lexicon Translator" that explains what two Big Government groups mean when they use certain words and phrases. Although accurate, it's (mostly) just for fun, and you can contribute your own additions to our lists.
 
The third is a link to a well constructed political quiz that assesses your position to questions about education, environmental issues, healthcare, science, domestic policy, immigration, etc., to produce a report about which presidential candidate and which political party you are most closely aligned, your political ideology, what percentage of people share your position (overall or by questions) in each congressional district across America, how you compare with a friend and so on. It allows you to log in via email, Facebook or many other choices so you can take the test and retain your results. The site is chock-full of tools and options and is a great addition to our Website.
