Celebrate 50 Years of
Excellence in Education

Plans are well under way for a year long celebration of our school's 50th Anniversary!  Here are just a few of the upcoming activities:

T-shirt Design Competition - PTA is sponsoring a school wide 50th Anniversary t-shirt design for students.  Complete details will be sent home with students next week or click  here for the flyer.  The top three designs will be selected by the 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee, and then students will select the final design.  The top three designers will receive recognition and a prize.  The design should fit on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper and should not use more than three colors.  The deadline for submission is October 14th.

Placemat Design Competition - Students in grades Preschool through Fourth Grade will be creating placemats for the clients of Meals on Wheels in the Mountain Gap and South Huntsville area at Thanksgiving.  The theme will be "Why I Am Thankful for My School - Mountain Gap 50th Anniversary".  Each student will be provided with the appropriate sized paper and designs must be done in colored pencils and/or marker.  No crayons please as they melt when laminated.  Three winner entries will be selected per grade level, and ribbons will be presented to the students.  The deadline for submission is October 23rd.  Complete details will be presented after Fall Break.

Decade Days - Mountain Gap School opened in February 1966, and PTA will be sponsoring a Decade Day each month starting with the most recent decades.  Students are encouraged to wear appropriate clothes from the decade being celebrated.  PTA will provide interesting facts about that decade on that day.

The Nifty 90s will be celebrated on  Friday, October 16th.
The Electric 80s will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 18th.

Just a thought to ponder - Mountain Gap students will be celebrating decades in which they weren't even born.
