| Volunteer Grant Deadline Fast Approaching Non-profit organizations with projects that educate K-12 students about the source of their food, fiber and fuel are in luck. Florida Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc. (FAITC) is once again offering its Volunteer Grants program. The deadline for applications is Friday March 18. Farm Bureau offices, Extension offices, 4-H programs and other non-profit organizations and governmental agencies are eligible. But they are eligible for Teacher Grants and School Garden Mini Grants, which are available at the beginning of the school year. |

Florida Agriculture Literacy Day April 26
Florida K-12 teachers and agriculture industry volunteers interested in educating students about agriculture are encouraged to participate in Florida Agriculture Literacy Day Tuesday April 26.
This year's book, Drive Through Florida: Vegetables, is the second in a series of non-fiction books tied to Florida educational standards that emphasize reading for content by describing the many vegetables grown in the Sunshine State.
The book's red truck mascot 'Ole Red' takes students on a tour of tomato, squash, snap bean, sweet corn, lettuce, bell pepper and potato farms around the state, among others.
To learn more about Florida Agriculture Literacy Day, Click Here. Readers are expected to schedule their classroom visits, and are asked to schedule those visits before they order materials. Registration for materials, which includes one book and teacher resource disc per class and one bookmark and sticker per student, will become available on FAITC's website in late February.

Teachers Can Apply for 'Blooming in the Desert' Awards
Florida general education teachers who use agriculture in innovative ways to teach reading, writing, math, nutrition, science and more can apply for a scholarship to cover registration for the
2016 National Agriculture in the Classroom's
Conference 'Agriculture Blooming in the Desert' near Phoenix, AZ June 22-24.
CHS Foundation, Inc. is once again offering to pay for the registrations for K-12 teachers from around the country to attend the national conference. Farm Tour, School Garden
Workshops Scheduled
FAITC and its partners have scheduled two workshops this spring and summer for K-12 general education and agri-science teachers interested learning how to use school gardens and agricultural approaches as teaching tools.
The workshops are:
'Sowing Seeds of Knowledge' School Garden Workshop/Farm Tour, Monday March 21, at the Osceola County Extension Office in Kissimmee. Lunch and a tour of a u-pick blueberry and blackberry farm are included for a $10 registration fee. Teachers who attend are eligible for seven professional development points. 'Summer School Garden Workshop, Tuesday June 14-Wednesday June 15, at Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales in Polk County. Most meals, educational resources and gardening supplies for hands-on activities included in the $30 registration fee. Teachers who attend are eligible for 12 professional development points.
