Growing Entrepreneurs - Nurturing Success

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We toured the Sarah Bush Lincoln Gift Shop and learned about bookkeeping, personal financial statements, profit and loss and balance sheets.

The class began training in PX2- the Pacific Institute's Teen program Path to Extreme Success. PX2 is designed to build your understanding of how the mind works and controlling the way you think to achieve success. We will continue this next week.

Colleen Stone and Judy Brown gave us a tour of the Gift Shop at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital. Employees are their best shoppers, and they have moved the drinks and candy to the back of the store, so they might buy the gift items in the front of the store. Colleen led us through their profit and loss and discussed how the volunteers make it possible to use their profits for the betterment of the hospital. She also discussed their mission, vision and values that they carry on their name tags.
Linda Nance from First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust led a great discussion on personal financial statements, credit scores and handling finances during college.

Karen Bojoda of Kemper CPA explained the financial sheets that the students will be putting together for their business plans. This was also a primer on Excel.
We discussed looking at things from a different perspective and how when you lock on to looking at something one way, you lock out other possibilities. Can you see the old and young women in the picture? What else do you see?
