Book Study for Advent
Book Study for Advent
The Reverend John Jenkins will offer a book study during Advent at Saint Paul's.  We will join with Episcopalians across the Diocese in reading  Rowan William's Being Christian.  The class will be offered Wednesday mornings and/or Sunday mornings.  Please contact John with your preference of time.

One Book One Diocese
This Advent, you are encouraged to join with Episcopalians across the Diocese in reading Rowan William's Being Christian. This work, written by former Archbishop  of Cant erbury Rowan Williams, is based on talks given at Canterbury Cathedral as  part of a se ries of open lectures in 2013. In it, he shares insights into  baptism, Eucharist, reading the  Bible, and praying. While the work is brief, the view Williams'  offers is deeply Anglican, immanently accessible, and bracingly prof ound.

How to Take Part
While congregations are encouraged to form study groups to share their thoughts face to face each week in Advent, you can also participate with the rest of the Diocese o nline. First, each week in Advent read the selected portion of the 96-page book or listen to the corresponding part of the 2 hour and 25 minute audio version. Then each Sunday in Advent, we will add a reflection on the section for the week to the website  1book1diocese.georgiaepiscopal.org  where you can also take part by adding your comments on that reflection as well as your thoughts on the questions Williams poses at the end of the chapter.

The Ordination of John W. A. Jenkins

Your Prayers and Presence
are Requested

On Tuesday, November 24  th we will gather at Saint Paul's to participate in the ordination of John Jenkins to the Sacred Order of Priest.  Plan to be here at 7:00 p.m. to support John in the pivotal event in his and the Church's life.  That night the Bishop will lay hands on John's head and say these words, "Therefore, Father, through Jesus Christ your Son, give your Holy Spirit to John; fill him with grace and power, and make him a priest in your Church."

With these words and with this action the Bishop is not ordaining John as a priest for Saint Paul's, or the Diocese of Georgia, or even in the Episcopal Church in the United States, but for the whole Church.  Because of this our prayers and support now and throughout his ministry strengthen not only John but the Holy and universal Church of Christ.

This is a busy time for all of us.  It also a most important time to gather as the Church and participate in the building up of the Body of Christ.

Let's all join in this celebration with joy and thanksgiving as we give our assent and offer our prayers and praise for the raising up of John to be a Priest of the Church. See you there!

Reception Follows in the River Room

A nursery will be available.
