Book chronicles
decades of Friday
nights in Carrollton

FIGHT LIKE A TROJAN - Seven decades of Friday Nights in Carrollton, Georgia, is as special as the Friday nights in chronicles. In the state of Georgia, Carrollton High School stands alone as the Gold Standard in high school athletic programs. With seven state championships and numerous runners up, few schools can match the rugged determination of our Trojans when we take the field. With our Trojan Band providing the accompaniment, our Gold and Black has brought down the thunder of victory for almost 70 years.

CMS fifth graders learn
hands-on science
on  Wahsega field trip

The Carrollton Middle School fifth grade Science Club recently experienced science first-hand on an overnight field trip Oct. 26-28 in the north Georgia mountains.

The group of 60 students, 15 parent chaperones, and six school personnel first stopped in Dawsonville for a hike at Amicalola Falls - the tallest waterfall in the Southeast.

The Wahsega 4-H center was home to the group for the three days and two nights. While at Wahsega, students engaged in environmental education classes such as herpetology, pioneer life, stream ecology, and wilderness survival.

During these courses, students participated in hands-on activities where they were able to handle live (non-poisonous) snakes, cook cornbread over an open fire like the pioneers, hunt for salamanders and crawfish in the stream, and so much more. Many students even chose to face their fears and take a turn on the zipline!

Despite the rain, all students had a wonderful time and came back raving about all they had learned. See below a sampling of their experience!
CMS produces top results  on Milestones

The release of statewide results for the new Milestones testing system shows that all Carrollton City Schools outperformed the rest of the state in critical categories with Carrollton Middle School performing above the state average in all subject areas.

The Georgia Department of Education released the results of the new Georgia
Milestones standardized testing Nov. 16.

Results at Carrollton Middle School, when compared to the state, can only be described as outstanding. All three grades, fourth, fifth and sixth, outperformed the state in each subject area.

"We reshaped our classroom instruction to better allow content masters to teach what they really know and what excites them. As a result, students become more engaged in their learning," said CMS Principal Dr. Andre Touchard. "Our teachers are to be commended for setting the bar high on these initial Milestones." Little SISTER Club
holds canned food drive

Little SISTER, in partnership with CMS, held its annual "CMS Can Hunger" canned food drive. This year the donation of food items went to the local Manna House in Carrollton.

Some of the Little SISTERs as well as a parent volunteer, helped the Manna House volunteers load the food into their vehicle. CMS raised nearly 900 canned food items, with sixth grade Social Studies teacher Ed Cole's homeroom bringing in more than 200 canned food items.

The Manna House estimated the food to weigh 1,500 pounds and would be enough to help feed the families of the community. The Manna House serves 600 plus families here in our community. They thanked Little SISTER and CMS for continuing to show the Gold Standard by serving the community.
PBIS party a tremendous hit with CMS students
Carrollton Middle School held its first PBIS party of the year on Oct. 30. The students had an entire nine weeks to earn 40 Trojan Dots in order to attend the party. The theme of this PBIS party was "Your Positive Behavior has been the "Ghoul" Standard".

The students dressed up in costumes for the celebration. The PBIS committee as well as PTVO

did a great job of planning the event for the students. The students were able to have glow sticks, play outside games and have a snack as they returned to their classrooms. The teachers and administrators were all in as well.

The students admission to the party was a golden ticket. The ticket was used to announce the winner of the signed Trojan Football, which was signed by the seniors on the football team.

Out of the 1,040 students who attend CMS, 1,012 attended the celebration. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports and is the discipline/behavior program CMS follows. The students are looking forward to another exciting party in December.

Brian Loftin winner of  'Trojan Tune-In'
$500 gift certificate

Brian Loftin, one of 957 parents/community members who provided feedback in the second annual "Trojan Tune-In" district survey, is the winner of a $500 gift certificate to the Trojan Nation Store.

"We are extremely pleased with the response to the Trojan Tune-In," said Jay Goodman, director of Strategic Communication for Carrollton City Schools. "It is important for people who are invested in Carrollton City Schools to have an opportunity to share their thoughts on what we do well and how we can improve. Having almost 1,000 people take time to give us feedback helps us immeasurably."

Loftin and his wife Jean have two sons in the school system - Drake, a freshman at CHS, and Parker, a seventh grader at CJHS. Presenting Loftin with his certificate is Lori Tuggle, one of the Trojan Store managers. Congratulations!
