  Initiative to Protect Jekyll Island

Friends of Jekyll Island,

Help deliver a message to the Jekyll Island Authority and the Westin hotel that commercial vehicles do not belong on Jekyll's beach by displaying the decal shown above. To get your free decal, email [email protected]. Please specify the quantity you would like.
The decal is another step in an IPJI campaign to increase public awareness of the Westin's threat to Jekyll Island State Park's 65-year tradition of prohibiting commercial vehicles on Jekyll's beach. Opposition to the Westin's motorized delivery of beach services has been extensive ( click here for letters of concern and IPJI survey results) and will surely continue to grow as the public becomes aware of commercial traffic being allowed on Jekyll's beach.
Despite public outrage, the Westin, which failed to respond to IPJI requests for a meeting to discuss the beach driving issue, does not yet seem to realize how its beach driving venture impacts the look and feel of Jekyll's beach, disturbs beach-goers along the vehicle's nearly half-mile route, and undermines the image of the Westin as a caring member of the Jekyll community.

With a decision pending on renewal of this year's trial run for the Westin's beach driving business, we must continue the effort to encourage the Westin and the JIA to terminate the beach driving experiment. Please help support that effort by displaying an IPJI "Don't Tread on Jekyll's Beach" decal. Request yours now!

Thank you for your help in preserving the traditional character of Jekyll Island State Park's beach.

Turtles, birds, people - YES; commercial vehicles - NO!
Sincerely,
Diane Shearer, Chairperson
