School is out, but many of our staff members are already getting ready for class ... their own! Throughout the summer, Huber Heights City Schools teachers and support staff stay busy honing their skills, catching up on new trends in education and technology, and learning about best practices. While staff members have a host of places they can go for professional development, our district offers several courses throughout June and July, including:
- Differentiation in High School Mathematics
- Meeting the Needs of Gifted Students, Grades K-6
- Teaching Science, Grades 4-8 and 9-12
- Improving Reading Comprehension: Online Tools
- Exploring New Google Classrooms
Our teachers and staff will have lots to share with students next fall!

Congratulations to the Class of 2015!
On May 24, the Wayne High School Class of 2015 proudly received their diplomas, turned their tassels, and prepared to take on the world. Throughout the ceremony, which was held at the Ervin J. Nutter Center at Wright State University, WARRIOR PRIDE was on display! Our valedictorian, salutatorian and class speakers spoke on the value of being a Warrior--more specifically, a Wayne Warrior. The highlight of the ceremony was Will Allen, our keynote speaker. Mr. Allen was a Wayne graduate, Class of 2000, who now plays football for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr. Allen is also the founder of the Will Allen Foundation and our Quest program at Wayne High School. Once again, the audience heard loud and clear - Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior!
Please join us in congratulating these Proud Warriors on their numerous accomplishments!
Here is the Class of 2015, by the numbers:
- 392 Graduates
- 44 Honors Diplomas
- 62 Honors Cord Recipients
- 67 Academic Certificate Recipients (for students who earned a 3.5 or higher GPA during the first three quarters of the year)
- 91 Blood Cord Recipients (for students who donated blood at least 3 times this year)

Wayne AFJROTC participates in Dayton Honor Flight reception
Earlier this month, the Wayne High School AFJROTC participated in another Honor Flight Dayton reception at Dayton International Airport. Honor Flight Dayton's mission is to take veterans of World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and terminally ill veterans of any armed conflict to see their national memorials in Washington, D.C. These trips are provided at no cost to all qualified veterans and include airfare, bus transportation in D.C., meals, tee-shirts, and disposable cameras. Wayne AFJROTC, in addition to veterans-based organizations, line the airport corridor with proud family and friends who help welcome back almost 100 veterans from their long day at our nation's capital. Wayne participates at each Honor Flight by providing a Color Guard and Flag Line for the reception.

Incentive program encourages students to do their best
One of the activities that Weisenborn does to energize students to do their best on the test is an incentive reward program. Students earn tokens toward a drawing by doing two things:
- Being in attendance/on time for their scheduled test day
- Giving their best effort on the test.
At the conclusion of testing, students are randomly drawn by team (e.g., 7A, 7B, 8A, 8B). The prizes awarded were a $50 dollar gift card or a season pool pass to the YMCA Aquatic Center.
|
May test incentive winners: Seth Marks, Josh Joye, Kaylin Sam, Mackenzie Gross, Taryn Sachen, and Alexis Lock. |

Preschool students enjoy Fun Day treat
This spring the preschool classes participated in a cookie dough fundraiser. As a reward, they were all given the opportunity to go to the main gym for Fun Day activities. Students spent about an hour going from bouncy house, to slide, to obstacle course. By the end of the day, they were exhausted, as were the parent volunteers who helped man the fun houses and popcorn machine. Thank you to everyone who shared their time to make this fun event special for our preschool students!

Preschool Class of 2015 celebrates graduation
Between May 19 and May 21, 96 preschoolers graduated from Huber Heights City Schools' Integrated Preschool. Next year they will be kindergarten students in our elementary buildings.
Parents, grandparents, and other family members were treated to a graduation picture video of each group that highlighted moments from the school year. Graduates then entered the auditorium to Pomp and Circumstances, where more than 100 proud and supportive guests awaited them. The audience was then entertained by music selected and performed by the excited graduates. After diplomas were issued, graduates and guests joined for refreshments.
Congratulations to the Preschool class of 2015...and the future Class of 2028!
