October 2015
SAGE STUDENTS IN ACTION

Wasima Shinwari, an RSC senior, Afghan native, and honors student of biology (pre-med), founded a  speech therapy project  to connect US based speech pathologists with Afghan doctors to provide training on the identification and treatment of speech disorders. The project also provides training to the parents of children with speech impediments as well as medical students who will visit communities throughout Afghanistan to dispel cultural stereotypes stigmatizing children with speech disorders.

Wasima started her project in early 2015, just a week after she launched the project using funds she had saved from personal expense money earned at her campus job. To continue and expand her project, Wasima applied for and received a Pollination Project startup grant from Anne H. Pollack, founder and executive director of  Crossing Points Arts .

Mary Snell, Business Administration, SCA '16, is completing a yearlong internship at
General Electric. In her role, as a Tax Compliance Analyst, she works directly with the Department of Revenue and the Department of Labor in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. She shares, "Tasks change daily, leaving me excited and curious to see what the next day brings. The amount of knowledge I'm able to transfer from GE to classes at Sage (and vice versa) is unbelievable. Knowing how to manage time, being an authentic speaker, and having constructive listening is definitely key in having a smooth transition towards your future career. TIP: We've heard it all before, but MAKE CONNECTIONS!"

Art and Aesthetics in Video Game Design
through Dec. 13
