Pleasantdale School District Friday Update
January 22, 2016
A Note from the Superintendent
Greetings,  Parents,

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we've all relied on support from our village of neighbors, friends, and family.  We've been thankful for the help and ready to return the favor when others are in need.

Much as we have sought the support of our neighbors as we raise our children, I am seeking your support to enhance the school experience for your children.  On March 5th, our PTA will host its biennial Night on the Red Carpet event.  This is an adult social that promises to be a wonderful time for all.  The event will be held at 7:00pm at the Marriott in Burr Ridge.  The Red Carpet Event will include dancing, a silent auction with great items, and a $100 split-the-pot raffle with the winner taking home up to $15,000!

This important event allows our PTA (your neighbors) to continue providing our schools with fantastic enrichment opportunities.  Tickets are $40.00 per person; this event will be well worth the price of admission.  This is an adult-only event, so find a sitter and enjoy the company of your friends and neighbors.

If you have questions about the event, please contact PTA president Amanda Davis at (708) 567-0003. Click here to purchase tickets to this great event.

Thanks, and have a great weekend,

Dave

Preschool & Kindergarten Registration

Bright Beginnings Preschool and Kindergarten Registration forms will
be available for the 2016-2017 school
year at www.d107.org the first week of February.

The online forms can be accessed by clicking on the PARENTS tab followed by the REGISTRATION tab.  Children must be at least three years old by September 1, 2016 to be enrolled in the Bright Beginnings preschool program.

There are limited spots available for preschool classes. Priority will be given to those who first complete residency and registration. Please inform any neighbors with small children who may be interested in our preschool or Kindergarten programs.
Bundle Up!

As we brace ourselves for the deep freeze of winter, please remember that students have outdoor recess every day the temperature is above 15°, including wind chill.

Please remind your students that they must have snow boots and snow pants in order to play in the snow.

Being prepared to brave the elements will make recess so much more enjoyable during these cold winter months!

Hot Lunch Forms

We are asking for your assistance in completing hot lunch order forms correctly.  Many parents have been asking for duplicate forms or making copies because of errors made in choices of lunches. Please be advised that individual order forms cannot be reproduced due to the strict criterion of the scanning machine. The original forms are not only produced on heavier paper to accommodate the scanner, the "shaded circles" are also specifically aligned to the scanner as well. Reproductions therefore create problems.

Just a reminder - please read and follow the instructions on the forms. Use only black ink, do not use pencil.

March orders will be distributed on February 5th and are due back on February 10th.  I have a very short window in which to process these forms and deposits.  Please be sure forms are returned on time.  Thank you!

A Message from the President

Welcome Back! I hope everyone is braving this blast of cold weather. Here is a quick recap of our most recent events:
  • We provided sweet treats for our teachers before the holiday break. The teachers admired the family Christmas cards and enjoyed the delicious treats. A big THANK YOU to our families who donated and thank you to Kim Gilman, Diane Branch, and Katy Hinsdale for coordinating set-up and decorations!
  • Class holiday parties were held on December 18. The kids enjoyed holiday crafts, played games, and sang songs. Thank you to our room reps for their creativity in making each class party fun, entertaining, and exciting for the students.
We have many exciting events for the second half of our school year.
  • February 8th is Cultural Night. We are excited to have representatives from over 10 countries/cultures. This special event will educate children and parents on the unique characteristics of each nationality, including poster board presentations, food samples, clothing, and dances. If you are interested in representing your culture, please contact Sima Patel at [email protected]. * Sports Night is scheduled for Friday, February 19th, from 5-7pm at Lifetime Fitness. All the details are listed in this newsletter. This is a FREE PTA event!
  • Our bi-annual fundraiser/Adult Social "A Night on the Red Carpet" is Saturday, March 5th at the Marriott Burr Ridge. Please SUPPORT YOUR SCHOOL and purchase your tickets. They are $40 per person. It will be a great evening filled with hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, dancing, and a large variety of auction items. We would be grateful for donations to our auction. Please contact Joann or Jon Buralli at [email protected] to donate. If you are a business owner or leader, sponsorships are available to display your logo and name prominently.
  • If you are unable to attend, please consider purchasing a 'Split the Pot' ticket for $100. A maximum of 300 tickets are sold and are selling fast!! The winner from our last social won $9,000! All proceeds support the middle and elementary schools for two years. Tickets for the Adult Social and Split the Pot raffle can be purchased by contacting any PTA Board Member. The PTA will be selling tickets at the above listed events.
There is a vacancy on the PTA board for the 2016-2018 school year. Please consider volunteering your time to help us continue to offer great family events. Please contact any PTA board member if you are interested. There is no experience necessary - just a willingness to help our kids!

If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected] or (708) 567-0003. We welcome you to attend our next PTA board meeting on Tuesday, February 2nd at 7 p.m. at the Administration Building next to the Middle School. We always welcome input!

Amanda Davis, President
