Montgomery Twp. Ready for Snow Storm
Preparedness Reminders for Residents
The latest forecast call for 16 to 24 inches of snow and high winds here in Montgomery starting Friday evening through Sunday. Such conditions can cause downed lines and trees, difficult travel and power outages.  The Township has been preparing by brining and sanding roads and making sure needed equipment and safety/essential personnel are available and ready.

"Montgomery Township personnel are ready for the predicted weather. Residents are asked to stay off the roads until cleared and to prepare for the possibility of power outages this weekend, " said Mayor Patricia Graham.

Here are some ways residents may prepare today:

- Remove or otherwise secure all outside materials which may become airborne in high gusts.

- Fill up gas tanks and keep a blanket, flashlight & emergency kit in car.

-Keep cell phones charged and flashlights handy in the event of a power outage.

-If you own a generator, check that it is in working order now. Make sure outdoor generator location is properly ventilated.

- Power outage prep may include storing potable and flushing water, keeping food, medications, batteries & other needed supplies on hand.

(See National Weather Service website's "Before the Storm" pages http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/winter/before.shtml )

-Further safety tips on shoveling snow, preventing hypothermia and CO2 poisoning are found on the Health Dept. webpage at:

http://www.twp.montgomery.nj.us/departments/health/

Mayor Graham requests that residents review the following Township reminders:

ROAD PLOWING REMINDERS

-Montgomery Twp. reminds all residents that, by ordinance, there is
NO PARKING ON STREET while snow is falling or blowing excessively.

-Help Montgomery Clear Roads: Remove trash cans from near street & clear snow to the plowing downdrift side of your driveway (right side if facing street). Do not shovel snow into streets.

- Be patient for the plows.  They complete an emergency vehicle lane single sweep first, then return to complete full road clearing after the snowfall ends.

-If you are able, please work with your neighbors to help keep fire hydrants by your home clear of snow.

-Full Township snow plowing reminders found at:

PSE&G ELECTRIC OUTAGE REMINDERS

-PSE&G has informed the Township that they have additional personnel and equipment on hand for this storm, including additional tree crews. They also remind residents/business owners to prepare as follows:

-Be cautious if you see downed lines.  Downed wires should always be considered "live'.  Do not approach or drive over a downed line. Report downed lines to 1-855-BIZ-PSEG.

-Before the storm, sign up for PSE&G's My Account at www.pseg.com
. Bookmark on cell phone and log-in to report outages, and to get restoration status updates.   Outages may also be reported at 800-436-PSEG (7734).
