January 2016

We here at Goodison Insurance sincerely hope the autumn season has treated you well. As the new year begins, the winter weather seems to have finally found us

You won't find us complaining, mind you, but should the beginning of this new year decide to be a bit more frigid, we wanted to touch base with you and discuss a few wintery topics that are on our mind.

Cheers!

New Road Safety Laws
As per the MTO Website:

New rules at pedestrian crossovers and school crossings
Starting January 1st, 2016, drivers (including cyclists) must stop and yield the whole roadway at:
  • pedestrian crossovers; and,
  • at school crossings where there is a crossing guard displaying a school crossing stop sign.
These rules apply at pedestrian crossovers identified with specific signs, road markings and lights - the new rules do not apply to pedestrian crosswalks at intersections with stop signs or traffic signals, unless a school crossing guard is present.

Winter Tires Discount

shiny-rims.jpg We here at Goodison are big fans of winter tires. They offer much more control over your vehicle in the ice and snow making the roads safer for everyone to use.

As of January 1st, 2016 all insurance companies must offer a discount for automobiles equipped with winter tires. What is the discount you ask? Well, the amount of is at the discretion of the insurance company and can be as little as 1 per cent but we are seeing discounts in the neighbourhood of 2 to 5 per cent.

"All-season" tires do not qualify and you must put on 4 winter tires.

When you put your tires on matters. Depending on the company, but the broadest range is November - April. It would be best to keep a copy of the receipt for future reference.

RSA Releases "Waterproof" Endorsement
It's no secret that our weather patterns seem to be going through a warm cycle. This means that while winter still likes to dump a bunch of snow on us each year, because of the warmer temperatures, those snow falls are more likely to melt away than stick around all winter. This creates more  opportunity  for flooding and water related damage claims. This has lead to insurance companies designing products that will enable consumers to keep their interests protected..

RSA is the latest insurer to offer such useful coverage

RSA has developed an endorsement that provides coverage for "overland freshwater flooding" and Sewer back-up into one endorsement. This way, should an accident happen, RSA won't distinguish between the two. Making for a simple and effective way to protect yourself from water related damages.
