Musical Theatre West
THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 24TH AT 7PM
ONE NIGHT ONLY
AS PART OF THE REINER STAGED READING SERIES
RODGERS, HART & O'HARA'S

Book by John O'Hara
Music by Richard Rodgers
Lyrics by Lorenz Hart

SUNDAY, JANUARY 24 at 7pm
as part of the Reiner Staged Reading Series
at the University Theatre
on the campus of CSULB
(corner of 7th and East Campus Drive)

It's the 75th Anniversary of the penultimate collaboration of Rodgers and Hart which set John O'Hara's charming heel, Joey Evans in Chicago during the late 30s.  Gene Kelly shot to fame as the original Joey opposite Vivienne Segal as the older woman who falls for Joey's charms.  "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered," "I Could Write a Book," and "Zip" are among the titles in this classic score.

Never been to a staged reading?  Here's what to expect:
With a 25-hour rehearsal period allowed by Actor's Equity, all actors hold scripts while performing the entire script and score of the musical.  A small orchestra, minimal props and no scenery or costumes, think of it as radio theatre and a great way to experience these lesser known or older classic shows.

All performances are at the University Theatre
(at 7th Street and East Campus Drive) on the campus of
California State University Long Beach.
Parking is in Lot 7.
PLEASE BE AWARE We suggest finding the intersection and not using Google or Mapquest to find the theatre address as you will be directed to the front of campus and not the theatre itself.  Unfortunately the University Theatre has no physical address.

FROM OUR FRIENDS AT LONG BEACH OPERA
TO HELP CONTINUE CELEBRATING
THE GENIUS OF LEONARD BERNSTEIN

LONG BEACH OPERA presents
Bernstein's CANDIDE on January 23 & 30
at the Center Theatre in Long Beach.

Voltaire's biting satire of social mores, politics, superstitions, and unfettered optimism soars with Bernstein's witty, tune-filled score. Happy bastard Candide, the adoring and cunning Cunegonde, the vain Maximillian, and the extremely available Paquette journey through the "the best of all possible worlds," filled with outlandish characters.

How can you "glitter and be gay" when you're expelled from your home, separated from your true love, shoved into the army, beset by storms, earthquakes, swindlers, and tortured by the Spanish Inquisition? Candide must find reason in the most unreasonable circumstances.
