Garces  National Honor Society

Garces Social Studies Department Chair, Mrs. Cheryl Rhodes, has established a chapter of the National Honor Society at Garces.  Several Garces students applied and have been accepted into the Garces Memorial National Honor Society. The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  This select group of students will be given unique opportunities as NHS members.  Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

The inaugural  members are:

Seniors: Danielle Echeverria, Ariana Sales, Nikki Jamieson, Olivia Matalka, Juliann Hallum, Elsy Tovar, Kathryn Koenig, Delaney Beck, Emily Young, Garrett Andrew, and Nico Borba

Juniors: Anastasia Drulias, Kyra Sales, Matthew Lee, Bianca Burkhart, Blair Williams, and Damian Wimberly

Message from

Assistant Principal
Student Affairs

What an amazing place! I am overwhelmed on a daily basis with the incredible students that we have at Garces. While their academic prowess is certainly amazing it is their character, compassion and faith that is truly awe inspiring. Now don't get me wrong, they are teenagers which in and of itself implies mischief but they are amazing teenagers. I've seen them pray for the sick, raise money for the needy, lend a hand to the injured and comfort the hurting on such a regular basis that I am constantly in awe of their devotion. I am continually inspired by our students and want to compliment you on the great job you are doing in raising amazing young men and women.

With that said and no real meaningful segue, I'd like to update you a little on things that we have done and are doing in regards to the safety and security of our campus. First, our updated Emergency Action Plan has taken its final form. Included in this update will be quick reference guides that will be posted in every classroom with detailed instructions for various emergency situations. Second, we have added two-way radios to our Administration, Band, Strong Body and Physical Education teams. Often these classes are on fields or in areas of campus where the intercom system just is not effective. With the addition of the two-way radios our teachers will be fully aware of emergency situations and can easily communicate in the event of an emergency situation within their class. Third, following the incredible miracle involving one of our students recently, another AED was generously donated and is installed in Monsignor Leddy Hall. This addition means that we presently have 4 AED's on campus: MLH, the Campbell Field House, the gymnasium, and the administration building. Fourth, maybe the most visible, we will begin to install a security fence that will separate the campus from the student parking lot. With the continual activities that our students are involved in we often have people coming and going through the student parking lot. Currently, the campus is then completely accessible from the student parking lot. While it will take a little adjustment on our parts once the fence is installed it will certainly add to the safety and security of our campus. Thank you in advance for patiently making this adjustment with us.

Finally, a great big thank you to the Hail Mary Club! If you have been on campus recently you surely noticed the construction taking place in the front of the Gymnasium. The HMC has graciously put their efforts into transforming the gymnasium lobby and restrooms. Gone are the well used restrooms and lobby that were surely here in the beginning of the school in 1947. You will be amazed when you see what has been left behind by the HMC.

With that, do me a favor, if you have one or see one of these amazing students that we have, tell them thank you for building a legacy of character, compassion and faith here at Garces.

THEY DID IT!

The Garces Student Body committed to raise at least $5,000 for the Habitat for Humanity Pope Francis Build and they surpassed their goal!

The build came about through a generous anonymous Garces alumnus who lives on the East Coast. He has given thousands of dollars nation-wide to Habitat for Humanity. The donor specified the money he gave for the Pope Francis Build in our community required Garces to be part of the build.  Our students readily agreed to take part in this very worthwhile endeavor. Thanks to your support, we will be building a home for a local family selected by Habitat for Humanity. As soon as Habitat for Humanity shares the project timeline, we will update our students and families.
