What is #MarylandGivesMore and #GivingTuesday?

#MarylandGivesMore is a movement to make Maryland the Most Generous State in America on 12.1.15 aka #GivingTuesday. Convened by Maryland Nonprofits, #MarylandGivesMore is a day for all of us to give back. Whether you're an everyday giver, a corporate giver, a foundation, or a small business, you can get involved, activate your social network and make Maryland the Most Generous State in America.

Nationally, #GivingTuesday is a movement to add a national day of giving on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. December 1, 2015 marks the fourth national #GivingTuesday.

The Fall 2015 and Winter 2016 season runs from October 15th 2015 to March 17th 2016.

ECO City Farms has shares available for the upcoming fall/winter season of its farm share program to Prince George's County residents. Members sign up and pay for the season ahead of time, and pick up up a share of produce each week, containing a different mix of produce, depending on what is in season. ECO Update
ECO is always in the middle of several exciting projects.  For those that have engaged with us in the past, you may be wondering what the status is of some of our interesting  endeavors .

Bike Stop: The Ride 4 ECO fundraiser, in partnership with the University of Maryland students, last summer allowed ECO to raise the funds to install a bike stop at the Edmonston Farm. We're currently f inalizing the art for the kiosk and we'll be installing the pieces before deep winter sets in.

Kitchen/Classroom Space: The Edmonston farm has been under construction since March of this year, initiated by the delivery of three shipping containers. We have had issues receiving proper permitting from the County to continue construction. We're currently working with G arth Rockcastle of MSR Architecture Interiors and Urban Design to design a  flexible space for use as a classroom, kitchen teaching space and  produce storage.

Wormhouse: Our worms are well settled from their move to the Bladensburg Farm last year. New flooring with pavers donated by our friends at Ernest Maier is being installed.

Grant Award: ECO was awarded the USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program grant of $100,000 for 2016-2017. This funding will allow us to further develop the Port Towns Farmers Market with the goal of serving low to moderate income resident's food needs of the Port Towns area and surrounding communities.
