Pointe Coupee Young Leaders Selling Flags
This year the Pointe Coupee Service Leaders Project is a Pointe Coupee Pride flag. They are selling 11" X 18" yard flags that show your POINTE COUPEE PRIDE. The idea and conception is 100% driven by the group of students. The group is made up of 15 students from ALL of the High Schools in our Parish. Flags are available at Guaranty Bank in New Roads and the Service Leaders will be selling flags January 16th and January 23, 2016 at both Winn Dixie and Wal Mart in New Roads as well as Sopranos in Livonia from 9 in the morning till 1:30 on each of those Saturdays. There is also an order form in The Banner that will run each week.

The cost of the flag is $10. (Cash or Check only) Please join us in supporting the group as well as showing your POINTE COUPEE PRIDE. The month of January 2016 has been named POINTE COUPEE PROUD month by both the Police Jury Members as well as the Mayor of New Roads to support the group's campaign. This is for a really great cause and all proceeds from the project will be donated to the Veterans Memorial being built at the hospital here in New Roads that honors past, present, and future armed force members.

Arts Council to Offer Watercolor Workshop
An Evening with the Rat Pack

The Arts Council of Pointe Coupee is excited to open its ninth Performing Arts Series with a vocal performance on Friday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Poydras Center in New Roads. "An Evening with the Rat Pack" will be performed by Rayne, Louisiana native Spencer Racca. Racca was featured in an Advocate story by Patricia Gannon in August as the 100 th anniversary of Sinatra's birth was being celebrated with articles and television programs.

Racca has recently recorded a cover album for Jaded Records in Atlanta and enjoys performing Sinatra favorites, as well as those by Sinatra's Rat Pack peers. He currently performs in Lafayette at the Petroleum Club and plans to perform in Vegas in the near future.

Tickets for the January event will be available at Roy's Jewelers and The Therapy Center in New Roads or can be reserved by contacting Arts Council Director Gale Roy at 225 718-1574. Individual tickets can be purchased or season tickets are also available. Other events included in the 2016 PAS include an April performance by The Broadway Boys, "An Evening of Friends in Performance" in June featuring Pointe Coupee vocalists Jo Busse and Alisha Jarreau and Baton Rouge dancer Leonard Augustus, and a tribute to New Orleans great Fats Domino featuring Al "Little Fats" Jackson in September. The Arts Council of Pointe Coupee is excited to bring these outstanding performances to the community and invites current and past season ticket holders to share this information with others so we can pack the Poydras Center for these quality performances.

The Performing Arts Series is supported in part by a grant from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation, as well as supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, and as administered by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. Funding has also been provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Art Works.

Louise Hansen Watercolor Workshop

The Arts Council of Pointe Coupee is excited to offer a watercolor workshop facilitated by Louise Hansen. Louise Hansen studied art at the University of Southern Mississippi and pursued a career in Jackson, Mississippi and Shreveport, Louisiana in commercial art as an illustrator. After retiring from commercial work, she moved to Baton Rouge and fell in love with south Louisiana's delightful people, rich architectural history, beautiful swamps and varied wildlife.

She began studying transparent watercolor, a media she has always admired, and felt would best express the colorful and lively personality of Louisiana. She has taken workshops from such notable artists as Judi Betts, Pat Weaver, Birgit O'Conner, Tom Jones, Tony Couch, Lauren McCracken, Soon Y Warren, Ric Dentinger, Don Getz, Kathy Miller Stone and Mort Solberg.

Louise is a member of the boards of the Louisiana Watercolor Society and Associated Women in the Arts. She is also a member of the Louisiana Art and Artist Guild, River Regions Art Association, Southern Watercolor Society, and New Orleans Art Association. Her work has earned her many awards and she has been juried into regional, national and international shows. She has paintings in local and national private collections.

Louise will offer a workshop on Saturday, February 20 beginning at 9:00 and ending at 3:00 at the Arts Council of Pointe Coupee's annex room at the Poydras Center in New Roads. Louise will address two topic : Texture in Watercolor and Watercolor Water and Skies. Louise describes each component of the session. "Texture can add new excitement to your paintings. Wood, bricks to foliage, flowers to sand, rocks, all come alive with the addition of texture. Learn which paints you may already have that add texture as well as what mineral paints are available that add texture." Louise describes the segment on water and sky by commenting, "Learn to paint fluffy white clouds, stormy skies, stunning sunrises/ sunsets and how to wash in a perfect clear blue sky. Paint cresting waves, rippling rivers, quiet bayous. Learn the rules of reflections."

Artists interested in participating in Louise Hansen's Workshop can register by calling Gale Roy, Arts Council of Pointe Coupee Executive Director, at 225 638-6049 or 718-1574 or by contacting Gale at roygaleb@bellsouth.net. The workshop fee is $50 for non-members of the Arts Council or $35 for members. Space will be limited.
