Mr. Chesterfield
(Beginning Friday, Nov. 27)
Our annual holiday brew, just a tad different every year. A true English winter specialty, malty and full bodied. This amber brew begins with a malt aroma mingled with complex fruit and honey notes. Malt sweetness on the palate with mellow grain, toffee and spice. Just enough English and local hops to balance the sweetness. A delicious brew best consumed moderately chilled as the flavors intensify as it warms. Available into the new year.
Style:  English Old Ale
OG: 1071
ABV: 7.8
IBU: 38
Color: 11

Hay Hop Black Beer
We found another keg from October! The Pangburn family grows some hops for us just north of town. This year the green beasts engulfed some hay bales nearby. We don't know if these cascade hops picked up some Iowa farm character, but we thought it would make a great dark beer for the fall season.
Style:  Smoove ale
OG: 1057
ABV: 5.7
IBU: low, low, low
Color: black

Expansion Update
We are six months into work on the new brewery across the street. In July the new roof and insulation was installed and the brewery basement was reinforced to support the added weight of a brewery. In August window and door openings were cut in the wall between the brewery and taproom. Most of the plumbing and all of the concrete work was finished in September. The brewery floor and ceiling where installed and the tap room bathroom was framed.   We finished the month with a Halloween bash for our Good Pint Pass Program members in the new brewing space.

A hopeful chronology follows:

Nov.: Electric work is completed. Storefront installed.  bathrooms, kitchens completed.
Dec.: Brewery equipment arrives; first test batches, Tap room bar and furnishings installed.
Jan.: First beer tapped to the public.
Join the Worth Brewing team: Tap Room server

We are looking for a Tap Room server to begin in early 2016. This is a part-time position with principal duties as follows: serving customers with good beer and advice; keeping the tap room clean and in order. Nights and weekend hours.

Fire Company receives December Real Ale Relief

The Northwood Volunteer Fire Company is the most recent recipient of Real Ale Relief, a program from Worth Brewing Company in Northwood, Iowa. All the proceeds from a cask of unfiltered, gravity dispensed ale will go toward the all-volunteer group's general fund. In addition, the fire company volunteers are encouraged to enjoy a brew free of charge on Saturday Nov. 28. Sunderland Mild dry hopped in the cask will be tapped at 5 p.m.

The Real Ale Relief program aids non-profits in north Iowa and southern Minnesota. Several times a year all proceeds from one cask of "Real Ale" is donated to a local non-profit. Recipients are encouraged to tap the keg in the Northwood Tap Room and distribute information about their projects.

Real Ale, or cask conditioned ale, is a traditional English beer with natural carbonation served direct by gravity from the cask at the bar.

"We've had such good support from our customers over the past eight years and are fortunate to be able to give back to the community," said co-owner Peter Ausenhus.

Worth Brewing Company has hand-crafted beer in Northwood since 2007. Non-profits within Worth County and the surrounding counties can apply. For rules and an application, please go to
