Generation Schools Network Approved as a New Turnaround Leadership Provider in Colorado
Generation Schools Network in partnership with Battelle for Kids and CSU Global will be supporting turnaround principals throughout Colorado beginning March 2016. In the next few months, principals will by applying from schools in priority and turnaround status from across the State of Colorado to receive assistance with turning their school around and earning a Graduate Certificate in Turnaround Leadership. Participants will work together as a school or district-based team of 5 people, be provided with Battelle for Kids tools and resources, Generation Schools Network coaching and CSU Global graduate credit.

Generation Schools Network Joins Battelle for Kids Rural Education National Forum
On October 26th & 27th, Generation Schools Network staff Wendy Piersee, Jon Reinhard, Kate Lister and Katie Peyton joined more than 300 rural education leaders from 23 states at the 3rd Rural Education National Forum to learn, collaborate, and share ideas for moving rural education forward. Hosted by Battelle for Kids (BFK) in partnership with the Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia Departments of Education, the event featured keynotes from Jessica Meacham, the National Rural Teacher of the Year, Jeannette Walls, New York Times best-selling author of
The Glass Castle, and John King, Jr., the next U.S. Secretary of Education, as well as numerous breakout sessions led by rural educators from across the country.
The Rural Education National Forum was created to bring rural education leaders together to help reshape the rural economy, enrich the quality of life, own the future of learning, and prepare communities to be successful in a highly competitive, complex, and ever-changing world. BFK and GSN have partnered together to support rural Colorado schools through the 19 strong and growing Colorado Rural Education Collaborative (CREC) and enjoyed participating in the Conference with staff from the Colorado Department of Education, members of the Colorado Rural Education Council and the superintendent of Del Norte. After participating in several sessions about highly effective rural collaboratives, the group looks forward to continuing to build momentum in Colorado.

Brooklyn Generation School All in for College Application Week
Three years of preparation has brought Brooklyn Generation School's seniors knocking on the door of post-secondary opportunity, but history has shown there to be many obstacles preventing disadvantaged students from even completing a college application.
It's been well documented that both first-generation and low-income students are at high-risk for not going to college, oftentimes lacking support during critical junctures of the application process. GSN and BGS' response toward this situation? Participate in American College Application Campaign's national crusade to support our students who belong to this demographic toward post-secondary access.
The American College Application Campaign (ACAC) is a national effort to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential. The primary purpose of this effort is to help high school seniors navigate the complex college admissions process and ensure they apply to at least one post-secondary institution. The effort occurs during the school day, with a focus on students who might not otherwise apply to college.
BGS engaged their entire seniors class, cycling them between college presentations, alumni panels, fun activities and application submission rooms, ultimately debunking the application process. As a result, 75% of BGS seniors finished at least one CUNY application! Several other students completed SUNY and private school applications as well; half a dozen have already received acceptance letters to Monroe College.
College Application Week at BGS provided students with extensive support to apply to college. We thank the colleges and community partners in attendance who made it possible: Emma L. Cunningham Scholarship Committee, SUNY Brockport, Hofstra University, Brooklyn College, Mercy College, Monroe College, and Farmingdale State College.

Generation Schools Network Supports Better Business Bureau in Creation of Ethics Certification for High School Students
GSN College/Career staff supported the development of the LIFT Business Ethics Certification Program by the Better Business Bureau Foundation (BBB Foundation) over the past year. The result, an amazing and free resource for high school teachers and students: the LIFT Business Ethics Certification Program. This multi-week program engages corporate volunteers alongside the teacher to demonstrate to youth the importance of integrity and ethics and how both of those concepts affect them right now and in their future careers. The workshop/class and project-based learning curriculum offers an introduction to business ethics as well as personal character lessons. The program concludes with each student presenting their project, signing the LIFT Commitment to Conduct, and receiving an Ethics Certification from the BBB Foundation.
The LIFT Business Ethics Certification Program grew out of a desire to focus on the pressing need for an honest, ethical future workforce and community to continue the BBB's work of cultivating a marketplace of trust. LIFT strives to tackle the ever increasing problem of dubious ethics being taught and accepted in our society. BBB Foundation is currently partnering with Generation Schools Network and three other organizations (Denver Scholarship Foundation, Mi Casa Resource Center and Open World Learning) for the 2015 pilot that is targeted to reach between 700 and 1,000 students.
