Celebrate Dr. Samuel Ciricillo!
|
Please join us in honoring
Samuel Ciricillo M.D.
, Neurosurgeon at Sutter Neuroscience Institute, Sacramento, o
n Saturday, November 21st at our
2015 Candlelight Gala
. We honor Dr. Ciricillo for his
work in both Adult and Pediatric Neurosurgery and his role in advancing the use of Laser Surgery to treat epilepsy in a minimally invasive way
.
In a 2015 interview with Sutter Medical Group, Dr. Ciricillo spoke about his journey to the medical field. "My yearbook title was Mr. Music. I was the guy in band and orchestra who was destined to be a musician I thought. My best girlfriend and I decided though that we would go to Duke and be pre-law so we were all set to go to law school but then I got to Duke and she didn't go. So at that point, I was pre-law, pre-med and had to choose one in that first year. Science was the thing that grabbed me the most."

Dr. Ciricillo's passion for music and medicine led to the development of Sutter's pediatric neurosurgical program which so strongly impacts the lives of many children and families. He currently
serves as Director of Adult and Pediatric Neurosurgery and he was President of Sutter Neuroscience Medical Group for eight years.
In both roles, Dr. Ciricillo has been admired
by patients and colleagues
for his skill and expertise, as well as his exceptional bedside manner. His professional interests include Gamma knife surgery, epilepsy surgery, computer-guided surgery and brain mapping.
Dr. Ciricillo continues to work to advance Laser Ablation Surgery -- a minimally invasive technology that destroys problematic tissue in seconds at temperatures near 130 degrees Fahrenheit. This technique harnesses the unique thermal mapping capabilities from MRI imaging data, allowing the surgical team to monitor temperature changes
and protect the healthy tissue d
uring the Ablation process.
With
more than 65 laser ablation
procedures for epilepsy performed, Dr. Ciricillo and his
multidisciplinary team are
national leaders in advancing the
treatment of epilepsy for both
pediatrics and adults.
Dr. Ciricillo earned his medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta and completed both his residency in Neurosurgery and his fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Ciricillo received certification as a Diplomat from the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1998 and is board certified in Pediatric Neurosurgery. He has practiced Pediatric and Complex Adult Neurosurgery at Sutter Medical Group for more than fifteen years.*
Dr. Ciricillo has also served on the faculties of Shriner's since 1992, UC San Francisco School of Medicine from 1993-98 and UC Davis School of Medicine since 1999.
Under Dr. Ciricillo's leadership, the Sutter Neuroscience Institute has been designated a Neuroscience Center of Excellence and Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento was ranked among America's Best Hospitals in Neurology and Neurosurgery by U.S. News & World Report in 2007 and 2008. In 2014, Sutter Neuroscience Institute was proud to achieve its Level IV designation from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) for its epilepsy program.*
