Congratulations to Police Chief Anthony Holloway, the City of St. Petersburg's Most Valuable Burger!       

On Thursday, September 3, the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the 3rd Annual Good Burger Awards. St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway was named "Most Valuable Burger," receiving the most votes from the citizens of the Sunshine City.

A Good 'Burger is a business, organization, or individual in greater St. Pete making a positive impact in our community.

Congratulations to Chief Holloway!

Tampa Bay Times: Kriseman: Cuban trip could pay off with consulate office 
 
Mayor Rick Kriseman said Cuban officials are receptive to his idea of placing a consulate for the island nation in Florida's Sunshine City..

"Having a Cuban consulate would be a very good thing for us," Kriseman said at a City Hall news conference Tuesday, three days after his return from a weather-shortened trip to Havana.

The American and Cuban embassies have only been open a few weeks and Mayor Rick Kriseman is wasting no time trying to bring a consulate to St. Petersburg.

A delegation of St. Petersburg city officials returned from Cuba with no new knowledge about where the island nation may open its first U.S. consulate in five decades.

But City Council Chairman Charlie Gerdes, part of the delegation led by Mayor Rick Kriseman, said they did learn about one place it won't be.

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman said he found Cuban people warm and friendly with no hatred to Americans, despite being "very nationalistic in their outlook."

The trip, which began Friday morning, was cut short because of a looming storm impacting both communities.

Creative Loafing: SHINE mural festival is aglow in St. Pete   
 
The SHINE mural festival, from Sept. 1st through the 12th, will provide the city of St. Petersburg with more than 10 new large murals on downtown walls, painted by local and visiting artists, all hand-picked by curator Tes One. Additional art exhibits and events will be held, such as this film that opened the festival.

WFLA: St. Pete Police to be trained on transgender interactions  
 
St. Petersburg Police Department supervisors will be trained, for the first time, on how to interact with transgender people during arrests or exchanges on Friday.

Chief Anthony Holloway outlined a policy on appropriate interactions with transgender individuals. "It is the policy of the St. Petersburg Police Department to treat all people with dignity, respect, and professionalism," the department states. The training is part of a broader trend across the country. About a year ago the Department of Justice started training agencies on interacting with people in the transgender community.
