Racers!

With the 2016 Boat Show now history, the countdown to launch officially begins. We can all start thinking in earnest about the 101 things that will improve our performance over last year. With the relatively mild winter so far, there is no reason not to get a few of those projects under way.

Registration is now open for all LOOR events, so take advantage of the early bird discount (registration and payment by March 15), and use that extra cash for a go-fast gadget or a go-fast bottle of rum!
Registering early also helps the committee plan the events more effectively and encourages your competition to sign up as well.
There's nothing more exhilarating than a full start line.

Back by popular demand, LOOR will be hosting two 'Speakers Nights' this spring. See the details below and mark your calendar so you don't miss this chance to up your game on the race course.

Keep calm and sail on.

LOSHRS - Amendment to Notice of Race

In order to better handle award flags in individual races, the following paragraph was added to the LOSHRS NOR for 2016:

If there are 16 or more starters in a fleet for a given race, the fleet may be sub divided into sub fleets for awarding 1, 2 and 3 place flags to the sub fleets in that race.

Using the fleet "Flying Sails - Double Handed 3" from 2015 as an example, only five sailboats were eligible for the overall award. This is the typical number based on the past several years. However, the participation in an individual race was often higher, in some years over 16. Hence the above paragraph was included in the released NOR.

As a result of feedback from participants the number will be reduced to 11 in the NOR as Amendment 1. The following sentence was added to clarify the overall scoring process:

The score, position in its fleet, for a sailboat in a race, will be used in calculating the overall Fleet Series score for that sailboat.

If everyone, who is planning to race, attends the Friday Evening Participants' Meeting, we will be better able to create equitable sub fleets and post them in the morning.

We appreciate your feedback on all matters.

Crew Bank - Need Crew or interested in Crewing?

If you are a sailor and interested in participating in one of the Lake Ontario Offshore Races, or a skipper who needs crew, use the Crew/Boats Boards on the Yacht Scoring Registration and Official Document page. This resource was in high demand during the 2015 season and crew was snapped up very early. Check it out and ensure you don't miss the opportunity to participate in a LOOR event in 2016.

You'll find the link on the Registration page, right side of the page, called 'Crew/Boat Boards', or go to the Crew Bank
page on the LOOR site.
