BFP Celebrates Black History Month
|
BFP celebrates Black History Month by recognizing its employees, volunteers, partners and members of the community that contribute to the rich heritage of African Americans.
Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history.
The theme for Black History Month in 2016 is "Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memories" chronicling the important places in the United States that evoke a sense of black culture and history.

Family voice and choice is a core value in the BFP System of Care. It was the local community coalition, Together in Partnership in 2003-2005, when analyzing the former child welfare system identified family centered practice and an aggressive front end prevention and diversion program as two of the 5 priorities for the Brevard Child Welfare System of Care.
Parent leadership and inclusion is a core value of family centered practice. It involves parents as partners from policy to practice. Since February marks the observance of National Parent Leadership Month it is a good time to get a pulse on how we, as a System of Care (SOC) are doing in achieving the vision of our community.

 National Parent Leadership Month honors and celebrates parent leadership roles in the home and within the community. In addition, it highlights the partnerships with policymakers and showcases the opportunities available to parents with the goal of building strong and safe families.

 Brevard C.A.R.E.S. (Coordination, Advocacy, Resources, Education and Support) is a family-centered, strength-based, and community-driven model for child abuse prevention and family preservation.
The program's unique "Wraparound" approach and Family Team Conferencing offers services and support to families experiencing stressors that could lead to abuse, neglect or abandonment.
Since inception, Brevard C.A.R.E.S. has provided support to over 15,000 children and their families in Brevard County. Of these families, approximately 20% self-referred, in that they sought assistance prior to a situation becoming a crisis. Less than 10% of families have been referred to our program more than once.

 Being a foster parent is a very rewarding experience. You will be caring for children who have been abused or neglected and serving as a role model for the biological families who are working to be reunified with their children.

Thank You 333rd Recruiting Squadron
|
 Thank you to the
333rd Recruiting Squadron spouses group for their donation of 10 "sweet cases" to Brevard Family Partnership. They are part of a state-wide group of military spouses, headquartered in the Melbourne area through the Air Force Recruiting Service.
These generous donors participated in Together We Rise's sweet case program, which helps provide suitcases to children in foster care. Many children going from home to home have nothing but a trash bag to carry their belongings. We appreciate your support!

Representatives from BFP and Brevard C.A.R.E.S. attended Children's Week in Tallahassee in January. Children's Week develops and implements over 200 community events and activities statewide, bringing thousands of parents, children, policy makers, professionals, community leaders and concerned citizens together to share valuable knowledge and information about children's issues in each community across the state and at the State Capitol.
Every year, Children's Week showcases the signature "Hanging of the Hands" featuring tens of thousands of 'hand art" hung throughout the Capitol Rotunda.
The goal for the "Hanging of the Hands" is to provide a visual and powerful statement that every set of hands represented a child who was impacted by the policy decisions of the legislature.
