As we embark on another busy holiday season (though judging by the displays in some stores we set sail some time ago), I wanted to take a moment to wish you and your loved ones a happy Thanksgiving. Of course by its very name this is a day of giving thanks: for family, for friends, for all that we are blessed with. I think for many it is the favorite day of the year, surrounded, as we are (if fortunate enough), with those nearest and dearest to our hearts and a feast fit for royalty.
But I would also ask you to remember, on this Thanksgiving Day, the less fortunate among us, and to perhaps extend a kindness of thought or gesture towards them in your own way this holiday season. Move an elderly neighbor's trash can from the curb. Shake the hand of a veteran and thank him or her for serving. Let us recall the better angels of our nature and think of what unites rather than what divides us. Here is a link to various volunteer opportunities in Prince Georges County:
