The Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration has announced a funding opportunity for the Telehealth Network Grant Program (TNGP)! A total of $6 million will be awarded to an estimated 20 applicants to demonstrate how telehealth programs and networks can improve access to quality health care services in rural, frontier, and undeserved communities. Applications are due April 8.

Administered through HRSA's Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, Office for the Advancement of Telehealth, TNGP networks are used to:
  1. Expand access to, coordinate, and improve the quality of health care services;

  2. Improve and expand the training of health care providers; and/or

  3. Expand and improve the quality of health information available to health care providers, and patients and their families, for decision-making.
The primary objective of the TNGP is to help communities build the human, technical, and financial capacity to develop sustainable telehealth programs and networks.

This year, applications are encouraged from networks that will demonstrate how telehealth can expand access to and coordinate/improve the quality of health care serves through school-based health centers. Clinical focus areas noted in the application include asthma, obesity reduction and prevention, behavioral health, diabetes, and oral health.

The last TNGP announcement awarded $3.5 million to 9 programs in 2013.

Note that the TNGP is a separate program from HRSA's Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant Program and the Rural Health Network Development Program, which can also include telehealth components. The most recent funding opportunities for these programs closed in January and will be awarded in June.

As always, please review the complete grant opportunity and do not hesitate to reach out if we can be of any assistance.

Sincerely,

The NETRC Team.
