$241,000 in grant money secured for Good Nature Brewing Expansion
|
BIG WIN FOR Good Nature Brewing, Village of Hamilton & the Partnership for Community Development.
The PCD, the Village of Hamilton, and Good Nature Brewing (GNB) have been working together to seek funding through New York State's Community Development Block Grant program for GNB's exciting expansion project. Recently, $241,000 of grant funds were awarded through the program to help Good Nature move their plans forward. This is a win for all involved and will result in sixteen additional jobs for the community. Part of the funds will be repaid to the PCD for use on other economic development programs, so thank you GNB for helping to promote other businesses in Hamilton as well as your own!
We hope GNB's business expansion serves as a model for other new and exciting businesses to join our community and one day grow. We welcome these types of entrepreneurial enterprises to Hamilton and look forward to working with other new and existing businesses i
n their creative business pursuits.

Hamilton Airpark is awarded $50,000 in grant money from NYS |
Announced in December as part of New York State's Regional Economic Development Council awards, the Village of Hamilton has been selected to receive a $50,000 grant to complete an Airpark Needs Assessment and Redevelopment Study. The goal of the project will be to analyze the opportunities and barriers to developing the Airpark. Additionally, the study will provide a marketing plan for recruiting new businesses to the Airpark. The Airpark offers 50 acres of commercial land adjacent to the airport. The Partnership for Community Development will be the sub-recipient of the grant, leading a committee of PCD, Village of Hamilton, and Airport/Airpark Commission members to complete the study with the assistance of a consultant.

Senior Housing - discussions, meetings & PCD collaboration
|
|
an example of a pocket neighborhood |
Another exciting initiative the PCD is involved with is the development of new opportunities for senior
housing. A while back, community member Liz Brackett established a senior
housing group that has been working on a concept for middle-income housing. They
are pursuing a pocket neighborhood idea that was the subject of a recent Lifelong
Learning class titled 'One Approach to Senior Housing: Independent Living in a 'Pocket
Community'. The well-attended course encouraged the group's
concept, and made it clear for the need of a broader community discussion on senior housing.
PCD will continue to work with the group on the pocket neighborhood and also
hopes to engage all residents interested in other types of housing. Liz's group deserves
much credit for their initiative and creativity. They are helping to meet the need

Mini-Grant Recipient 4 Spotlight: Flour & Salt Bakery
|
WARNING: Do not read this on piece on an empty stomach, BUT
if you choose to ... be prepared to SALIVATE)
For those of you not familiar with
Flour & Salt Bakery, the story begins with Britty Buonocore who started this home bakery last year here in Hamilton.
After graduating from Colgate she moved out of the area, she longed to return to the warm and friendly community of Hamilton. We are glad she is back and the PCD was pleased to award Flour and Salt Bakery a mini-grant to assist in the expenses of getting her business registered as an LLC with New York State.
"I enjoy the quiet of my early mornings and also the bustle and interesting conversation at markets, parties, deliveries, etc. I am so glad to be a part of Hamilton in this way."
Flour and Salt has been busy. S
he sold (and sold out!) of her baked goods weekly at the Hamilton Saturday Farmers' Market and has been catering locally, including at Colgate University, where her creations are featured at the Colgate Library Café on Wednesdays. She plans to have a local retail outlet for Flour & Salt Bakery products this spring.
If that weren't enough, I have it on good authority from some of my four-legged furry friends that she makes a mean dog treat !!!!
