The first 40 days in the life of a corn crop sets the stage for yields at harvest. "We've been told that corn has the genetic potential to yield 600 bushels per acre," said Ken Musselman, agronomist for AgriEnergy Resources. "But there have been at least three growers that have already raised over 500 bushels per acre, so I'm not sure we really know what the genetic potential is."
However, Musselman said during a presentation at the 2016 Winter Seminar for AgriEnergy Resources, the plant starts with a yield potential and every day as stress occurs that potential is reduced. "We want to retain as much of that potential as possible," he said.
