5th Grade Theater Performance
|
As part of a month-long workshop with the Boston Children's Theater, the 5th Grade Theater Performance took place on Friday, January 29th in the East School Cafeteria. Each 5th grade class wrote, staged and performed an original piece that coordinated with their social studies curriculum.

The PTO hosted its first annual Father/Daughter Dance on Sunday, January 31st. East school girls and their fathers, grandfathers, and other special men in their lives, had a blast showing off their dance moves to DJ Cubey's tunes. For more pictures from this event, go to:

PTO Meeting with Liza O'Reilly

At the PTO meeting on January 13, Liza O'Reilly, former East School Treasurer and School Committee member, presented information on current School Committee activities including the budget process and updates to the Hingham Schools website.
|
The 10-week Fall Math Olympics program, which began at the end of October with more than 135 students opting to participate, wrapped up this month. Math Olympics is a perfect way for students from grades K-5 to participate in an extra challenging math program throughout the school year. Worksheets are downloaded off the Math Olympics section of the East School website and completed and submitted to the classroom teacher each Thursday. Gold, silver and bronze certificates are awarded to students based on the number of worksheets completed. The Spring program, which is also open to Kindergarten students, will kick off in February.

The first graders enjoyed reading to Lucy, a licensed Therapy Dog and specially trained Reading Education Assistant Dog (R.E.A.D.). The PTO would like to thank first grade teacher Ms. Martin for inviting Lucy and her owner Pat Howe again this year!

Q: What do you enjoy most about teaching?
A: My favorite thing about teaching is getting to know my students as individuals with unique talents, gifts, and potential. It is wonderful to see them form together into a community of learners, over the course of the year.
Q: If you weren't teaching, what would you like to be doing?
A: If I weren't teaching, I would probably be doing music therapy, since music is such an important part of my life, and I enjoy helping others.
Q: What would you sing at Karaoke night?
A: One of my favorite songs to belt is "Defying Gravity" from Wicked.
Q: What is your dream vacation?
A: I have always wanted to go to Australia, including having a chance to see the Great Barrier Reef -- maybe even snorkel or scuba dive there! I had a penpal from Australia when I was in third grade, and I've always dreamed of visiting the continent.
