Visit the pop-up library, donate books written by or about Black women and girls!

When:  February 20, 2016
10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Where:
Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture
5733 S University Ave, Chicago IL, 60637

Inspired by The Free Black Women's Library, a monthly mobile pop-up library in New York City, we're bringing this amazing idea to Chicago for Black History Month!

We're accepting donations of any books that are written by and/or about Black women and girls, and have a program that includes a teach-in about women in the black nationalist Garvey movement.

Have some books for the library?  Visit these drop-off locations.

Want more info? Check out and share our tumblr site or our Facebook event with information and updates to come!

Thanks to Ola for this great idea, and to all volunteers for making this possible!

If you want to know how to pro-actively support and advocate for survivors who live at the intersection of gender violence and criminalization, attend this convening!

P articipants will unpack traditional service providers' reliance on tropes such as "perfect victims" and "recognizable victims". We will  explore what services, resources and strategies are necessary to support those who have been criminalized for survival (including self-defense). We will share experiences of grassroots organizations and defense committees in supporting those who don't fall into the "perfect victim" narrative.

There will be a panel discussion and debriefing of events during the day, and viewing and discussion of the documentary Perfect Victim

We are also
honored to have a special keynote address by
Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha , a queer, disabled femme writer, performance artist and educator of Burgher/Tamil Sri Lankan and Irish/Roma ascent.

FREE to the public. Limited capacity. Light breakfast and lunch provided.

*This event is particularly relevant to advocates in the domestic violence and sexual assault fields. We hope you can join us.  CEU's will be available for ICVDP, LCSW, and LCPC professionals.

Our closing reception for the " Making Niggers: Demonizing and Distorting Blackness through Racist Postcards and Imagery" exhibition was a success with dozens in attendance and a riveting discussion with key organizers about  how we are making #BlackLivesMatter in Chicago right now.

And it doesn't end there- the exhibit has been extended through February! Come see it for Black History Month!
