Rugby Athletic has recently signed a three-year partnership with the Old Aztecs Rugby Football Club, becoming the official apparel, merchandise and equipment provider of the club through December 2018.
"The Old Aztecs are a very well-respected and established club," Rugby Athletic's Chris Babiash said. "We are always looking to partner with strong clubs with a very clear idea of what success looks like. The Aztecs know how important branding is to their identity and we can't wait to work with them and provide them with the best RA and BLK has to offer."
The Old Aztecs Rugby Football Club was founded in 1978 by San Diego State University alumni in support of the student rugby program. Through the years, the Club has grown and become a well-known rugby club, not only in the Southern California area, but throughout the U.S.
As the club developed over the last few years we've worked really hard on creating a strong image both on and off the field," said the Old Aztec's President Jaco Breytenbach "We've implemented new ideas and made changes to our leadership structures to become more professional, while staying true to everything that makes rugby great. It was only logical to find a partner with a recognized brand to support us. RA has established itself within the U.S. rugby community, and we've been very impressed with the few interactions we had with them prior to signing this partnership.
"Through this arrangement," Breytenbach added, "we'll get access to merchandise, playing gear and equipment, which will continue to help us develop on the field, and improve our image off it. BLK is such a prominent brand in rugby - it will really add to our own professional look, and the pride that goes along with playing for your club. We look forward to this opportunity."
The Old Aztecs, which is currently known for their highly competitive Division I side, also has a DII side that travels to all the matches, as well. And, while the club started as SDSU Rugby Team alumni, they are also heavily involved in the San Diego rugby community through connections with the Point Loma Nazarene University rugby team, the San Diego Aztec Youth Rugby Club, and are big supporters of the San Diego Surfers Women's Rugby Team.
"Like Rugby Athletic, the Old Aztecs are really focused on building the game at every level," Babiash said. "That's such a great characteristic of a club and one we look for when we sign on as a partner. We love when we see a club's success trickle into all areas of the game, as well as the community in which they are based."
