President's Report

Dear Member,

The end of 2015 is quickly approaching and I imagine you are incredibly busy wrapping up your fall campaigns and ensuring that your donors are thanked and appreciated heading into the holidays.  On that note, I want to thank you for your contribution to the AFP Every Member Campaign if you have already donated. Your contribution will support the work of the AFP Canada Foundation, which includes scholarships and bursaries that come back to benefit our Chapter and our Members.

We have an ambitious goal this year to maintain our rockstar status as a chapter. If we achieve a fundraising goal of $4,900, then 35% of that amount will come back to our chapter.  If reach $4 , 500, 25% will be returned to our chapter and, if we don't achieve our goal,  10% of the total raised will come back to our chapter.  Currently we have 25% of our membership participating in the every member campaign. I would like to see if we can achieve 50% participation in this campaign and achieve our stretch goal of $4,900 and leverage the MOST MONEY WE CAN back to our members.

Please consider donating today, and help your professional association help YOU. Your donation will have a direct impact on our ability to provide scholarships and bursaries for members to attend professional development sessions and conferences. This is FOR you!

If we can get 41 people to donate (any amount will do!) then we can achieve 50% participation and we will achieve our stretch goal of $4,900.

Let's show the rest of Canada what we can do out here on the island!

Thank you in advance for your enthusiastic support of AFP and your members. We are excited about our plans for 2016!

Enjoy the holiday season and I hope you take some time to relax and rejuvenate!

AFP Mentorship Program 2016

Are you a novice in the field of fundraising and looking for an opportunity for skill development and mentorship?  Alternately, are you an experienced fundraiser and want to give back by helping a newer AFP member to navigate the field of fundraising?

We are excited to launch the fourth year of the Mentorship program for the AFP Vancouver Island Chapter. Many people have been asking about this program again for 2016 and so we know the need for mentorship in our field is incredibly valuable. As a member of AFP this is an important benefit of your membership, and we know from feedback over the past 3 years that BOTH Mentors and Mentees benefit from this relationship.

We will soon be accepting applications for both Mentees and Mentors for the 2016 program that will run from March 2016 through to January 2017. This is a 1 - 2 hour commitment per month and we can attest firsthand that some valuable learning and relationships are realized.

You can be a part of this valuable program!  The application forms will be available on the AFP Vancouver Island website in early January.   We will once again offer a mentorship panel discussion early in the new year.   Date TBA.

Your AFP Mentorship Program Co-Chairs can be contacted by email with any immediate questions you may have.

Congratulations AFP VI Membership Scholarship Recipients!

Karin Hedetniemi, CAE, P.Mgr.
Diverse life, learning and career experiences have helped shape Karin's perspective and nonprofit management approach. She originally studied psychology at the University of Victoria, then business at the University of Alberta, and now blends these two spheres of interest in her professional life. Karin quietly leads from behind for a mid-sized education charity, where she directs the finance and human resources initiatives to build organizational resilience and employee happiness. After many winters on the prairies, Karin recently traded her parka for a rain jacket and returned home to Victoria, where her heart has always been. She is inspired to learn, contribute and explore the final frontier in her continuing nonprofit education: fundraising!
