Check your Street Address
Can you see your address from the street?  If you can't, police and fire can't either.  Please check and paint or replace them.  Seconds save lives.
When do I need to take my car for an emission test and when is my vehicle sticker expiring?
The State of Illinois is no longer mailing Vehicle emissions testing reminders.   To find out when you need to have your emissions tested, call 847 758-3400. Press #3 and they will ask you for your license plate number.

You won't be able to get your vehicle sticker if you are not compliant with the emissions test.  For those of you who wait til the last minute to purchase the sticker, I wanted you to know that you could be out of compliance with the emission test and not know it.  No more big yellow mailer to remind you!

Want to be reminded by email that your vehicle sticker is expiring? The state no longer sends notices by mail.
Paperless License Plates Renewal Notices is the convenient and secure way for Illinois motorists to go green and receive their notice by e-mail. To receive your license plates renewal by e-mail, click here and enter your
Registration ID and PIN located your current registration card. If you do not have a renewal notice or a current registration card, please call the Public Inquiry Division at 800-252-8980 to obtain your Registration ID and PIN number.

By not mailing the plate renewal, the State of Illinois is saving $450,000 a month. The down side is that people are getting tickets because they forget!

FREE TAX PREPARATION SERVICES AVAILABLE THROUGH AARP TAX-AIDE PROGRAM
The AARP Tax-Aide program provides free federal and state income tax preparation to low and moderate income residents across the US.

AARP Tax Aide counselors are volunteers who are trained each year on state and federal tax regulations, and are certified by the IRS to provide free tax preparation services.  From Feb 1 through April 18, these volunteers can be found at community centers and libraries which provide space and act as sponsors for the program.  The IRS provides software and E-Filing services.

Although the program is sponsored by AARP and has a particular focus on preparing taxes for those ages 60 and older, you do not have to be an AARP member or any particular age to use the service.  There is no limit on size of income, although there are out of scope limitations on complex return situations for which volunteers have not been trained.

There are two nearby library locations which serve Fremont Township residents with free tax preparation through the program:

Both locations take appointments.  You will need to bring your Social Security Card and Photo Identification, a copy of your last year's tax return, all tax-related forms received such as W2's, 1099R's for pensions or annuities, Social Security 1099 and 1099 forms for interest and dividends.  Also, bring any other tax related forms which will help the counselor to accurately prepare your return.  Married couples must both be present when return is prepared unless attending spouse has power of attorney for the other spouse.

Call them to make an appointment!
