Michigan is ranked 9 th highest in the country for average student debt at graduation for the Class of 2014, including students at both public and private institutions. The percentage of graduating seniors with debt is 62% in both sectors (61% public 4-year, 73% private nonprofit), ranking 20 th in the nation. However, it should be noted that many institutions do not complete this voluntary survey, affecting comparative rankings.
