NVAL presents:
Celeste White
Monday, February 22
General Meeting/Presentation speaker at 7:00 P.M.
Celeste's Bio:
Most of my formal art education took place when I was growing up in Kansas City, Missouri. I took classes in portrait painting with muralist Daniel MacMorris starting when I was twelve, studied art history in Rome, Florence, and Paris, and attended summer art classes at the University of Kansas, Lawrence during high school. I obtained my B.A. at Wellesley College.
My first show, "ArcheoIndustrial," took place in 2010 at Trilogy Architecture in Redding. In 2015, two of my collages were selected for the Turtle Bay Juried Biennial, my assemblage work was on display at The O Street Gallery and Redding City Hall hosted an exhibit of my collages. In November 2015, four of my collages were part of an international juried exhibition online, ArtistTable.
My work is included in private and corporate collections in various locations throughout the United States, including San Diego, Sonoma, Portland, San Francisco, Washington, DC, Georgia, Colorado, and Redding, as well as in the United Kingdom.
Techniques for Making Found Object Art
At the presentation, I'll be showing some examples of the different kinds of found object art that I make, those that involve metal, hardwood, and glass backgrounds, or "canvasses." In addition, I'll give a mini-workshop on working with leaded glass as well as finishing hardwood, discuss a few adhesives and techniques for adhering unlike materials to one another, and talk about ways to frame and hang unconventional works.

Opening on March 1
with the
"Flower Power" Show will be Featured Artist,
Judy King
and her show titled,
"Faces and Figures."
Featured Artist and Member Show Reception will be held on Saturday, March 5, from 4-6 P.M.
(As always, it is appreciated that members bring finger foods for the refreshments.)
Judy's bio:
At the age of 47 I took a drawing composition class at the local community college in Gilroy, CA. and fell in love with making art. My first love was drawing from life. I now use soft pastels and oils. I was lucky to have studied with two renowned pastel artists, Ramon Kelley and Harley Brown. Drawing and painting while models pose for 3 hours is so exciting and challenging for me; translating quickly the values, color, and form into a likeness which is always a bit out of my control. I love the experience of doing it.
I would like to thank all the faithful artists and others who over the years dedicated their time and effort to keeping NVAL alive and well. Thank you for coming and I hope you enjoy the show.

We will start with basic dying techniques, and then we will learn about gutta techniques using resist, and then branch into colors and special effects on the silk using salt. This is a class for absolute beginners! Silk painting requires a flexible hand for freedom and to be ok with painting outside of the lines.
