This summer, 23 companies across India will host 60 Indian diaspora students for paid internships under the newly launched India Corporate Internship program. Established by the Overseas Indian Facilitation Center (www.oifc.in), the program allows students to work with firms including TATA, Flipkart and Infosys in cities from Bangalore to Mumbai.
All India Radio (AIR) recently launched a nonstop channel, "Raagam," dedicated to Indian classical music. The channel, launched in Bengaluru, will be available online and on AIR's mobile app. AIR, also known as Akashvani, aims to allow fans to enjoy not only traditional classical music, but also a rich collection of Hindustani and Carnatic music.
Delhi-based designer Suket Dhir won the 2016 International Woolmark Prize for menswear, beating out more than 70 other designers from around the world. Dhir, whose collection fused classic Western tailoring with traditional techniques, is the second Indian designer in the past four years to win the prize, which totals more than $71,000.
India's 67th Republic Day was celebrated at the Indian Embassy on January 26. Ambassador Arun K. Singh paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Embassy and unfurled the Indian National flag.
The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace announced that Carnegie India, its sixth international center, will open in April 2016. The center's work will focus on issues including India's economic and security policy, innovation and technology, political reform and international affairs.
