Message from Executive Director Walter Kalman
On January 19th, Governor Christie signed a new law allowing minors to be treated for substance abuse or mental health concerns without a parent or guardian's consent.

The Boys & Girls Clubs Keystone Law allows minors 13 and over to seek substance abuse treatment without the consent of a parent or guardian. In addition, the law allows temporary outpatient mental health treatment of a minor age 16 or over without consent of a parent or guardian. In either instance, the treatment information is considered confidential between the youth client and the treating provider.

If you are working with youth, it is important to understand the details of the law as they relate to you, your clients and your practice. Please click here to review the full text of the bill that was adopted.
