President's Message

Dear Members,

What a way to start off our year! Kendra Scott's sellout program on January 27th did not disappoint. You Do Good was Kendra's message for our chapter, and what an uplifting program it was. She is an incredible entrepreneur and generous philanthropist. Our chapter will receive just over $1,000 as a percentage of sales at a special event at the Kendra Scott store in Preston Center, as well as from sales at the Kendra Scott pop-up store at our luncheon.

This is the Year of the Member. Our chapter is 418 members strong, including 78 young professionals. Your board and committees are working hard to expand programming, provide more networking opportunities, increase professional development and reach new audiences. Stay tuned each month to see what is happening!

Help Us Reach our Goal!

Our own Greater Dallas AFP philanthropy, AFP Now!, is off to a great start for 2016. The  AFP Now! fund helps us provide professional development support for deserving chapter members, and to go above and beyond programming our chapter programs and events. 70% of your gift remains with the chapter, and 30% is sent to support the AFP Foundation.

We have already achieved our first fundraising goal, with 100% Board of Directors' participation for the 2016 AFP Now! campaign and $5,000 pledged. The board now challenges the rest of our members to match that amount and help us reach our annual goal of $10,000. Our third goal is to reach 25% participation by our chapter membership, or 100 members. Gifts both large and small will be gratefully received, and you can schedule payments throughout the year. Who would have thought that the recent blizzard in the northeast would have an AFP Dallas connection? Chapter president Judy Wright and Mary Freeman, president-elect, were stranded in Arlington, VA, after the Large Chapters Presidents' gathering at AFP International, an opportunity for networking and sharing best practices.    
 
Brainstorming with five fellow non-profit fundraising professionals with vast experience in development, succession planning, public/private collaborations, strategic planning and community foundation leadership was a positive outcome despite four days locked in a hotel watching over two feet of snow pile up. The "Marooned 5" laughed a lot and made friendships that will last well beyond our initial meeting.
 
Your AFP membership provides you with the tools and resources to build similar networks of expertise to assist you in raising funds and awareness for your mission.  Thank you, AFP, for providing us all with the tools to broaden our expertise, no matter what the weather gods might send our way!

2016 DFW Philanthropy in Action Conference

Kick Off the New Year

On January 14, over 40 young fundraising professionals gathered for Things That Make You Go Hmm, part of AFP Greater Dallas's Young Professionals activities. This fast-paced event connected attendees with a panel of fundraising executives and "speed dating" roundtables. The event was hosted by Tori Correll, VP of Membership for AFP Greater Dallas. Special guests included Dr. Mary Brumbach, Chief Strategy Officer at DCCCD; Milton Key, Partner at Alexander Haas; David Krause, CEO of Parkland Foundation; Keith Rhodes, President of Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star; and Carole Rylander, CEO of Rylander & Associates. As one attendee noted, "This was absolutely fabulous, well planned and very beneficial. It would be great have this event again in the future!"
