2016 Summer Educators' Institute:
Transforming Education Through Absent Narratives
Sunday, June 26 - Friday, July 1, 2016
Friends and past participants,
The Minnesota Humanities Center is excited to announce a major offering that we have just opened for K-12 educators in Minnesota, the weeklong  Summer Educators' Institute: Transforming Education Through Absent Narratives . As people familiar with the Humanities Center work and approach, we wanted you to be the first to know. We are also asking for your help in sharing this opportunity with educators in your networks. Additional information about the opportunity can be found below. Thank you for your assistance, and we hope to see you at the Humanities Center sometime soon!
The opportunity
This Institute provides educators with an opportunity to engage deeply with the Humanities Center's proven approach to increase student engagement through absent narratives - those voices often left out or marginalized. The experience will develop classroom strategies for bringing absent narratives pedagogy into practice, while building a community of educators committed to relationship-based educational change in Minnesota.
Full scholarship offered
In recognition of the time and energy educators will bring to the Summer Educators' Institute, the Humanities Center is pleased to offer this experience at a full scholarship to participants (a $2,800 value). This is made possible thanks to generous funding from private donors and the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. The only cost to participants is a $150 registration fee (10% discount if you register with a team of three or more). In return, you will receive K-12 professional development content and additional benefits including:
  • Classroom resources, tools, and strategies
  • Certificate for 45+ clock hours
  • All meals provided
  • Lodging for those traveling from outside the Minneapolis/St. Paul area
Graduate credit is available through Metropolitan State University School of Urban Education at an additional cost.
