A Trip to Remember
Debi, Tatum & Madison Decided on BIG Changes . . .
Having just returned from visiting our daughter's family, in Florida, I could hardly wait to make a report on the wonderful adventure everyone experienced, as the result of Grand-Dad (the hairdresser) being in town. Apparently, the seeds of change had been "brewing" for sometime, and as soon as I got off the plane, I was asked if i had my equipment with me. Fortunately, as a last minute whim, I HAD brought along my scissors!
Tatum was first up. She had been looking forward to a change ... and not a small one, at that. While she has marvelous thick, wonderfully wavy hair, it is a lot to manage. Besides, she is developing a dramatic flair, and wanted a completely new feeling.
I cut an A-line, chin-length bob, which really shows off her terrific hair. It can still go into a pony tail (or 2) ... and allows Tatum a even greater amount of variety in how she styles her hair. To be sure she was truly ready to "burn the bridge" behind her, she and her Mom chatted about the finality of the intended path ... but it became clear Tatum was fully committed! There would be no turning back.
Opps ... Dad had not been told ... he would definitely come home to a surprise. BTW ... Tatum has intimated that she'd like a "pixie" next!
Madison was eagerly awaiting the entire time I was cutting her big sisters hair. It is certainly fair to say that Madison has more hair than most people ... perhaps even two or three times as much. On such a petite body, it could often overwhelm her, and frequently required her mother's assistance to style. It is often styled in a pony-tail, or braid, to control the volume.
However, her Mom was concerned, because the cut I was recommending, would be a dramatic style for anyone, but especially an 8 year old. She didn't want her daughter to jump in, and then have second thoughts. But after lengthy, careful discussions, over several days, Debi became convinced that Madison was truly committed, and ready for a real hair adventure. The cut I created involved a daring "under-cut" to remove much of the bulk, and was topped with a slight A-line bob. When worn in some variations, the very short "Fire-fly Wedge" underneath, can be shown off, for all to see.
Her first day back to school, her 3rd grade teacher shrieked with excitement, and immediately lead her down the hall, to another classroom, where she showed a teacher who also works with "Maddie" ... she shrieked also! The rest of that day, many of her friends wanted to feel her hair. Madison may never be the same again.
Debi had patiently waited for all the previous drama to finish ... her time had now come. None of the previous caution with her daughters, had to be observed ... she wanted something daring, and a little "punk-rockish". Careful consideration and consultation was involved, because we both wanted to accurately capture her mood.
Her new cut also involves an "under-cut", but on only one side, as the entire cute is both A-line and asymmetrical. If she chooses, she can definitely style this in an extreme variation ... and rock the look! Both Tatum and Madison were inspired, also, by the chance to donate their long hair to "Lock of Love". They each gave close to a foot of hair to a great cause! What an amazing experience we had ... a wonderful adventure that seemed to happen spontaneously. It surely was a week to remember, for this hairstylist, and grand-father!
