-- George Bernard Shaw This month, because of recent happening in the celebrity world ... Miley Cyrus! ... I thought it appropriate to answer the question that I am often asked, "Where is fashion going ... what is the latest look?" So, a little test ... answer this question: What do each of the above haircuts have in common? Each is an example of the strong movement towards "disconnection" ... of which Miley Cyrus is just to most recent, famous example. What is most telling, is that this is no longer an extreme look, worn by adventurous youths ... it is now truly mainstream, as the diverse ages of the ladies above, demonstrates. Above are Maddie (8), Sarah (20s), Jessica (20s), Catri (20s), Ameri (30s), Pam (40s), LuAnn (50s) Diane (60s) & Diana (60s) ... three generations of remarkable, modern ladies. (click image above for close-up) My eBulletin would not be complete, without mention of our two adventurous grand-daughters. Several weeks following their most recent hair adventures, in July, I asked my daughter if their father was becoming more accepting of the short cuts. She replied that he is now having more of a challenge with the way they are dressing! Ah, parenthood . . .  Time for Change Miley goes short!
Just off of a big photo shoot for the September Marie Claire cover article, Miley apparently had been thinking for some time, of a BIG change.
She tweeted a count-down, without explaining what would happen ... and surprise! It goes without saying, that not all of her fans were happy about this dramatic change. Some, in fact, were quite upset ... enough so, to tweet very critical opinions on her new look.
Personally, I think that she looks fantastic. It is a really fun change, and I'm sure it makes her feel sensational ... like a completely different person. With "Hannah Montana" having ended, perhaps that is just what she wanted to accomplish.

 Maddie vs Miley Separated at Birth?
Here are two amazing young ladies. Each "inventing" their new style individually ... but ending up with such very similar looks!

Tatum & Maddie's Hair Adventure ... Part 2 (July)
Both are very adventurous with their style, and willing to stand out!
In April, my wife, Diane, and I, traveled to Florida, where I was presented with the pleasant opportunity to give dramatic make-overs to our daughter, Debbie, and 2 grand-daughters, Tatum & Madison. In July, three months later, they came to California for a family reunion (July 4th) ... and a BIG part of the visit, was again, their hair. But this time, I had them come into the salon, where the conditions are much better for great hair design.
   Tatum, as usual, was first. She had prepared her Dad with her desire to go really short. She wanted a cut with personality, and a slight asymmetric flare. It is actually fairly similar to a cut I did on Catri, several months ago. Not typically what an 12 year old would wear. After the first few cuts, her Mom took a cell phone picture, to "text" home to Dad ... he said, "that is short enough!"
What is especially revealing, and gratifying to me, as a hairstylist, is that Tatum has been styling it even more dramatic than my original thought ... I love it!
  Madison, again as usual, was patiently waiting her  turn. But, apparently she and her parents had NOTsufficiently discussed her desire for a short haircut.
After finishing her new under-cut bob (which was shorter than in April), Maddieshowed her disappointment that the cut wasn't even shorter. There was considerable discussion, and it was decided that, for now, it was short enough. Sad Maddie . . . ;-(
Within days, however, Maddie had figured out how to make her new cut look as short as she had hoped, by very dramatic styling. She now never wears it as a bob ... always showing the extremely short under-neath.
As it has turned out, these type styles are being seen more and more, on the fashion runways ... Miley Cyrus has now adapted the look, in her recent BIG image change!
  Both Tatum and Madison were ready to start school with their new haircuts ... both had fun showing their sense of style, before heading off to catch the bus.
I am very excited with anticipation, as Diane and I will be travelling to Florida, in a few weeks. How will this story continue . . . ?
We have just learned that we will have the opportunity to return to Florida, in December ... I may become their regular hairdresser!

 Jessica & Michelle Their New Looks . . .
> Jessica, who was in town recently, from Phoenix, where her husband is in his first year of medical school, just couldn't pass on the opportunity to stop by the salon ... for a good hair visit. As usual, she didn't care what I came up with ... as long as it was mainstream enough for a family reunion portrait. In addition to the cut, I gave her carefully placed, chunky highlights.
What an amazing young woman!
  < Michelle, a new client, was in just last week to see me, for her first visit. After careful discussion, she was willing to give me sufficient latitude to create a wonderful, very flattering new look for her.
The cut is nearly 9" shorter, and features a blended bang, which curves down to full length. This really enhances her beautiful eyes, and gave her hair fullness, while keeping enough length to please her. I look forward to seeing her again. |
My Travel Schedule Please Check Your Calendar* I'll be out of the salon from October 19 thru 25 ... but just before leaving, I've have added Tuesday, October 16th. I am travelling for USA Dance, and will be able to stop by Florida, to cut my daughter and grand-daughters' hair. They are having so much fun with their dramatic cuts, that we are creating memories for a lifetime! The first week of December (Nov 30 thru Dec11), Diane & I will again be traveling for USA Dance ... I have added 2 Tuesdays, one just before and another just after the trip ... Nov. 27 & Dec 18. Plan your appointments with these dates in mind. Our receptionist staff is aware of this extra Tuesdays, and will be glad to assist you. Please let me know if you have any challenges scheduling appointments.
