Jennifer Lawrence

"It grew to an awkward gross length, and I kept putting it back in a bun and I was like 'I don't want to do this,' so I just cut it off. It couldn't get any uglier."
-  Jennifer Lawrence

The "Hunger Games" star shared this photo of her new 'do' with her 3.4 million fans on Facebook, and there were over 2,400 comments, mostly in praise of the star's new blonder, shorter look. She joins Pamela Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth who have all recently cut their hair, opting for "The Pixie.

This may not constitute a trend yet, but it certainly is worth following, especially Pamela Anderson's big change, which is perhaps the most noteworthy celebrity "make-over" in recent memory!

Amie . . .
My New Assistant

Lovely Hanh has had the opportunity to move to a salon where she can do her own clients on a part-time basis. She is also considering returning to school ... perhaps to study mathematics.  She decided it was time to move on, and I certainly wish her the best success.

I am very pleased to announce that I have hired Amie Downing to step into Hanh's "big shoes".  A very recent graduate of the Paul Mitchell School, she was an honor graduate, and Valedictorian of her class.  I offered her the assistant position on the very first interview ... something I have not done before.

She is a retired Petty Officer 2nd Class with 8 years service in the US Navy, including a stint in Afghanistan.  Amie is the first veteran I have had the honor to work with.  You probably know that my family is FULL of military, so my daughter and son are very impressed ... and look forward to meeting her!

I am very excited to having each of you have the opportunity to spend time with her ... you will be impressed.  She is a remarkable young lady!  more

The Pixie Revisited
Is This a Coming Trend?

It is too early to know if these recent big changes from Jennifer Lawrence, Pamela Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth indicate a coming trend.  But there is no doubt that these daring ladies have garnered much attention with their terrific new haircuts.

Pamela Anderson
definitely stands out among these three, as she has jumped an entire generation ahead with her amazing change.  She could easily be called a "poster gal" for the 1980s, as no one has been more identified with the Baywatch and now OC Housewives style.

I will watch with interest to see if this is a brief mid-life crisis ... or if she is really reinventing herself.  This is the most dramatic celebrity make-over in memory.  Congratulations, Pamela!  more

Website Cover Page
Updated with New Images . . .

Recently, I was able to spend extra time with my photography, and captured some really wonderful images of Jessica, Tracey and Amie!

For Jess I planned a special session to capture HDR images, which involves taking multiple images with the camera set at differing exposure settings.  This is best done using a tripod, as each image must be virtually identical.  They are then layered using PhotoShop to produce a single final image with more dynamic range than from a typical photograph.  The model must hold very still to help make this process work.  This is not always easy to do, as I asked her to hold perfectly still, yet still look relaxed. The results were terrific!

When you revisit my website, you'll find the splash images change occasionally ... or you can merely "refresh the screen" several times to see the four new pages.

I took pictures of Amie, my new assistant, to use in her client introduction in this eBulletin.  They turned out so well that I decided to create some dramatic splash page versions from the best.  Her eyes are really amazing, and stand-out quite vividly. She calls them "Wolf's eyes" ... very striking indeed!  more

The Latest
Holiday Season is Here ...

Jessica ... has moved to Phoenix where her husband, David, is in medical school.  She still finds time during her visits back to SoCal, to come visit me for a fresh cut and style.

I've known Jess since she was 12 years old, when she volunteered to model for me when I doing a Women's Club presentation for her church.  She let me cut her in front of the audience without knowing what I was planning to do ... and with no mirror!  We've enjoyed 12 years of great hair together.

Recently, we had the chance to spend extra time getting images for the cover of my website.  As always, she is great fun to work with, and the results are terrific.

Leila ... many of you will fondly remember my past assistant.  She was very popular with my clients, and I was sad to loose her.  She had briefly moved to Portland, to be near a prominent fencing coach for her daughter, who is an upcoming athlete.

She has now returned to SoCal ... and I am thrilled to see her again. As usual, she encourages me to "do what I choose" with her hair, but wanted to retain the length. I designed this "new" shag for her, which looks fantastic with her wonderful hair.  A very pretty lady indeed!

Caroline & Sarah ... Merit/Andrews, an Irvine, CA, full service motion graphics firm, has got to be a really cool place to work with these two infusing their energy on a daily basis!  Caroline is a Partner & Director of Production, and Sarah, her past assistant, is now an Associate Producer.  Both look at every visit as an adventure ... especially when they come together!

Caroline, along with her Mom (Cathy) and sister (Emily) are perhaps my longest standing clients, having been together for over 35 years!

Diane ... my lovely wife and dance partner.  It was time for a change as she had worn the previous style for just over a year.  I created a much more layered look while keeping the cut's "a-line" character.  This gives a very flattering look with the focus much higher on her face than the previous short bob.  She is still enjoying being a bleach blonde.  I love this look on her!

Tracey ... a fairly new client, she is always good for some terrific images.  Not surprising, as she is a professional art class model ... the results speak for themselves!  One of the images from this latest session was used in one of the new splash pages for my website. more

Midori ... our dance coach is always up for an adventure, so her style changes quite frequently.  Her latest is probably as close to The Pixie as her very straight hair will allow.  Will we attempt going shorter next time ... hmmmmm?

Diana

... has always exhibited a special personal style, which shows that fashion is not only for the young.  She continues to explore trendy styles which are most typically worn by those much younger.  Thinking young is the best way of staying young!
