September 2015

"I think that as good architecture enhances a city, a good hair design/cut enhances the definition and express of a face."
-- Vidal Sassoon
It has been longer than I would like since my last eBulletin ... so this one has much to cover.  But first ...

BIG NEWS!

Sarah, my grand-daughter, is starting beauty school next week at San Diego City College.  She will be spending a year preparing to take her licensing exam ... and upon graduation next September will join me in the salon as my assistant.

I can not tell you how excited I am.  She will not have a typical beauty school experience ... and we will follow her exploits every month in my upcoming eBulletins and her own Facebook page.

Good luck, Sarah!!!

I hope everyone has a great last few weeks of summer,

Bill
Heather
My New Assistant

Unfortunately for Emma, my new schedule became a challenge as she needed to work full time.  She has done a great job working with me and will be missed.  The good news is that she will assist another stylist in the salon ... so we will still see her pretty smile.

I'm very fortunate to have found Heather to fill the spot.  She comes to me already working a part-time job at Starbucks, so my schedule will work well into her plans.  I am looking forward to everyone getting to know her ... she will fit in quite well!  BTW ... she will be getting married in mid-September!
Ginny & Sarah . . .
Mom and Daughter

One of the most special appointments that I can have in the salon is when mother and daughter come together.  I am blessed to have several wonderful mother/daughter customers.  And in a couples of cases ...  three generation clients.

Sarah's great looks obviously take after her mom, Ginny ... they are among my longest term clients.  You may recognize photogenic Sarah who has been on the cover of my website several times.

Young Clients
From Very Short to Very Long

Nelly (11yrs) and Regan (10yrs) are among my youngest clients ... both were brought to the salon by their special moms, Lori and Sheila. Both very unique ...

Nelly ... of course likes really short hair and reminds me so much of my grand-daughter, Maddie.

Regan ... came with her mom for her first time to see me.  She enjoys her long hair, like her mom who has wonderful long red hair, but wanted highlights to give it more personality.  I think we will go more dramatic next time!

Both these young ladies are really fun to work with!
Recent Visit to Virginia
Latest Family Looks . . .

Tatum . . . it is hard to imagine she is 14 years old!  Her new looks shows off an upscale "ombre" color on a long graduated cut.  This is my idea of how an ombre should look ... with the striking color boldly peeking out from underneath her natural darker blonde hair.  I don't often do ombre color, but when it looks this good, I'll do them all day long!

Maddie . . . she definitely marches to her own drummer.  Actually, she is now playing the Double Base after graduating from the Cello.  She thinks "bigger is better" when it comes to string instruments.  She also loves SHORT hair.  Her Dad doesn't get it ... but she's happy with "the shorter the better".

Debbie . . . really loves the statement bright red hair color makes.  You can see where her daughters get their fascination with striking hairstyles!

Tatum . . . poor dad!  Bright red chunks on her new ombre ... very modern.  But Dad is patient ... and the red will fade.

New Salon Computer System
The Latest Software is Now Installed

Most of my clients will never notice the change ... but for some, the occasional errors should be eliminated. The old software had a couple of "bugs" which reared their heads especially when existing appointments were being modified or changed.

However ... another aspect of the new software is how it displays appointments to our receptionist staff.  IF you are ever faced with the situation where a receptionist is telling you that I can not get you into my schedule ... please ask for them to double check with me.  ALSO ... if you receive a confirmation of an appointment at a time different than what you believe is correct, PLEASE let me know immediately. Thanks for your help!

Elizabeth . . .
Was Ready for Change

Often life events bring a changing perspective to one's thinking.  For Elizabeth, it was the opportunity to go on a mission trip for her church.

She knew that she wanted a more professional look ... but also one which would be easy to maintain during her mission.  Except for an occasional bang trim (which I showed her how to accomplish on her own), this cut may not require any significant maintenance as it grows out.

The Latest From the Salon
Recent Images

Katherine . . . decided that her next look needed to be a bit softer, even though she had a ton of fun with the ultra-short pixie, which I had inspired a new cover for my website.

But then she looks terrific at any length.  It will be fun to see where we go next?!

Donna . . . a very creative lady who is both a chef and an interior designer, she illustrates that as she matures, she looks amazing with darker rich red hair color ... a contradiction to the old adage that women are supposed to go lighter as times passes.  This makes her look young and vibrant.

Pam . . . is always open for change, so her style continually evolves ... a little longer, or shorter ... more or less asymmetric ... blonder or more variegated.  She keeps financial companies in line with government regulations, so she get's around, and is always known for her striking hair styles.  She is also, along with her mom and daughter, one of my 3 generation clients!

Victoria . . . was looking for a dressy look for a special event.  She was inspired by Catri's wedding style ... a modern classic a la Marilyn Monroe.

Miriam . . . one of the best known art dealers in So Cal, she has always enjoyed a style which is both current and classic.  With chunky highlights on an A-line bob, she gets a professional look which also says "up to date".

Diane . . . my lovely wife!  She has most certainly become totally comfortable as a Hollywood Blonde.  The red hair of the past involved much higher maintenance as it grew out.  The blonde is much more resilient.  And paired with the short asymmetrical undercut style ... she always gets compliments.

Marie . . . is a ballroom dancer and comes to me by referral from Tricia, who teaches at the Londance Ballroom Dance Studio in Laguna Niguel.  Her new cut is also a modern classic, with crosses over between a traditional blow-dry style, and the newer disconnected looks currently being shown on young clients.

Mobile Website
Designed for Your Handheld Device

My new "mobile" website is now functioning properly.  Several clients reported an issue with their attempts to access my website on the cell phone/pda ... I asked my website hosting company's "techies" to look into it, and they made some corrections.  I have all the most frequently used features prominently displayed for fast access ... especially my new schedule.

Again ... your device should automatically go to this new version my website ... there are no extra steps required from you.  Enjoy!
