All Greenlight Bookstore events are free and open to the public unless otherwise indicated. RSVPs via Facebook are appreciated, but seating is first come, first served (except for ticketed events). Tonight's installment features Mark de Silva, freelance writer for the New York Times and author of the debut novel
Square Wave. De Silva talks with his best friend Joshua Ellison, executive editor of Restless Books.

Led by Greenlight bookseller Geo, our nonfiction book group reads and discusses the most fascinating topics in nonfiction, both classic and contemporary, with seasonal themes covering a variety of genres. This season's theme is Memories. For February, the group discusses The
Faraway Nearby, a lyrical narrative about storytelling and empathy from Rebecca Solnit (author of
Men Explain Things To Me).

Blue Laws, a rich and lively gathering of highlights from the first twenty years of an extraordinary career, interspersed with "B sides" and "bonus tracks". Young talks about his poetic history with actor and writer Mary-Louise Parker (author of
Dear Mr. You), an ardent fan of Young's work.

The Book of Negroes, which was made into a television miniseries. In his new novel
The Illegal, Hill gives a voice to a refugee compelled to leave his birth land, and caught in his new home between his desire to excel and his need to hide. Hill, himself the son of immigrants, talks about his book and the surrounding issues with Patrik Henry Bass, editorial projects director at
ESSENCE Magazine.

Young Readers Book Group discusses The Apothecary
Led by Greenlight bookseller Grace, this book group is geared toward kids ages 9 to 12 and reads great contemporary and classic chapter books. Parents are welcome (but not required) to attend, and pizza is served. For February, the group discusses The Apothecary by acclaimed novelist Maile Meloy. It's 1952 and the Scott family has just moved from Los Angeles to London. Here, fourteen-year-old Janie meets a mysterious apothecary and his son, Benjamin Burrows. When Benjamin's father is kidnapped, Janie and Benjamin must uncover the secrets of the apothecary's sacred book, the Pharmacopoeia, in order to find him.
