Cynthia has been with the PATHWorks program for just over a year. She faced the challenge of supporting her five kids on her own and working full time outside of the home for the first time in 16 years.
With limited work experience to put on her resume, Cynthia included her volunteer experience and the transferable skills of raising a family. It took Cynthia a year and a half to secure full time employment and thanks to her hard work, persistence and commitment, she now works full time.
Cynthia's advice to others in a similar situation is to never give up; every challenge is an opportunity to get stronger. She explains that, "looking for a job can be a full time job, and when you continue to search, it becomes a habit."
Through the PATHWorks program, Cynthia's increased income has begun to generate escrow savings which she can use towards her long term goals of buying a house. She is also planning on starting the VIDA 3-1 savings match and going to college, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Sciences. Through her volunteer work, Cynthia saw that there are many families in need in our community. She wants to give back to the community by connecting folks with community resources.
Going back to school is the next adventure for Cynthia and her strength and vision will help shape the future for our community and her family. A main goal for her is to earn enough money to save for her children's education. Her daughter wonders if she will attend the same college as her mom someday.
For now, we would like to congratulate Cynthia on her hard work. We are excited to see what the future holds.
Great job Cynthia!
