Mulberry Honored for PBIS Program
Congratulations to our team at Mulberry Elementary for receiving the Ohio PBIS Bronze Recognition Award for 2015. They were honored at the Ohio Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Showcase held on December 1, at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4H Center in Columbus.  A total of 22 schools in Ohio were honored for their successful implementation of PBIS.

During the 2014-15 school year, Mulberry's entire staff was trained by ODE's PBIS team. Mulberry then formed a team of teachers and administration to tailor this program to best fit Mulberry's needs.

"The benefit of the PBIS training is that we are all on the same page and have developed a building-wide system, which has made a big difference in the positive interactions between our staff and students. We now have a clear set of expectations for all staff and students and a better sense of building pride," said Mr. Zawodny.

Milford will be implementing PBIS district wide for the 2016-2017 school year. For more about the PBIS program at Mulberry, click here.
Recap of Community Forum
Understand, get involved, and work together for what is best for our students were all messages shared at the district's community forum held on December 2 at Milford High School. The focus of the forum revolved around three topics: loss of local dollars to fund community (charter) schools; state testing; and unfunded mandates. Approximately 20 parents/community members attended and listened to a presentation on these topics from Milford Superintendent, Dr. Robert Farrell, and then shared their feedback with Board members and district administrators. Ohio Representative John Becker was also present to listen to what our parents and community members had to say about these issues.

Milford Main Open House Saturday
On Saturday, December 12, from 9 a.m.-noon, the district is opening Milford Main for those community members who want to walk through the building before it is closed for the winter. The building has been vacant since this past June.  One of the two boilers does not function at all, and the other boiler is in need of repair, so there will be no heat in the building this winter. Currently, the district is taking bids for the demolition of the building.

For the past three years, the district has been studying the viability of Main through its Business Advisory Council, who determined it is a financial drain on the district and recommended selling or demolishing the building.

Milford Musicians Selected for Honor Band in Record Numbers!
MHS OMEA Honor Band
Milford's music program continues to receive statewide accolades. A total of 32 Milford High School students have been selected to participate in the OMEA District 14 honor band in January. Milford also has 22 junior high students that have been selected for the OMEA's Junior High Honor Band.  District 14 includes all of the schools in Hamilton County and Clermont County.

"This is by far the largest number of students from any of the schools participating. This is a fantastic accomplishment for our students! The program just keeps getting stronger," said Brian Brown, MHS Band Director.

Students will participate in the District 14 Honor Band Festival to be held January 8-10, 2016, at Princeton High School.  The Junior High Honor Band will perform for the public at 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, and the High School Honor Band at 3 p.m. at the Princeton High School Viking Village.

Pictures and names of all the HS and JHS students selected will be posted on the district website.
McCormick Rallies Around Team Grace
These types of special stories show how Milford has such a caring school community...

Grace Gardiner is a sixth grader at McCormick. She was diagnosed with Lymphoma in late September. Since her diagnosis, her classmates have been staying in touch via hospital visits, sending "GraceNotes" and letters to her, and trying to keep her up-to-date through social media. Sixth grade families have been coordinating two ongoing fundraisers: #teamgrace t-shirts and bracelet sales. Then, along came another idea for a fundraiser.

"Grace was diagnosed while we were deciding if Daddy Warbucks for our upcoming production of Annie would be truly bald or just wearing a bald cap. It was an easy decision to shave my head and use the event to raise awareness and some funds," said Mr. Don Baker, McCormick Principal.

Chances were raffled off to students and adults. Each winner got to run the clippers through Mr. Baker's hair several times. More than $550 was raised for the TeamGrace account at 5/3 Bank in support of her ongoing medical expenses.
McCormick PTO presents Annie, Jr. this weekend. The cast and crew features 61 McCormick students in addition to staff members, Mrs. Linda Callahan and Mr. Baker. Performances are in the McCormick auditeria at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11; 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12; and 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 13. Tickets are $6 per seat and are available at the door.
Breakfast with Santa-December 12
Milford Junior High Builder's Club is hosting a Breakfast with Santa this Saturday, December 12, from 9 a.m. to noon in the MJHS cafeteria. Proceeds go towards their mission to help those in need through community service projects.

Service Learning Project Connects Generations
"I learned that everyone, no matter the age, has a worthwhile story to tell."
That's just one of many comments shared by our high school students after their service learning project. In November, Ms. Rheinheimer's Honors English 10 classes visited Sem Haven Health and Residential Care Center. In their study of Asian literature, one of the essential questions is "What are the stories that we have to tell?"

The students decided that they wanted to hear the stories of an older generation, and they contacted Sem Haven to create a partnership. They went in pairs and talked to residents, asking about their personal histories. The students then produced "Resident Spotlight" flyers featuring the residents to return to Sem Haven for their personal use.
