Shippensburg University Virtual Vacations Camp
Boys & Girls Grades 2 - 4
Virtual Vacations is a thematic camp that engages students in reading comprehension and vocabulary building strategies through digital exploration and composition, specifically as part of an authentic investigation of a destination (Mexico) using Google Earth as a three-dimensional travel guide and iPad apps such as Kahoot, Popplet, Little Story Creator, Wishboard, and QR codes.
Virtual Vacations requires the use of leveled, electronic texts to explore a country, while focusing on a literacy component. Literacy lessons using iPads are the tools used to model and apply essential skills, while allowing each student to practice digital literacy skills including comprehension and vocabulary building strategies. Students will culminate and share their learning experience by posting their informational or persuasive writing on a blog or website.
