Plants do not grow merely to satisfy ambitions or to fulfill good intentions. They thrive because someone expended effort on them.

Children, like plants, require someone to expend effort for them to thrive.

Our ACAM teaching artists expend their efforts helping youth to thrive in of one of the poorest and densest populated areas of Los Angeles, an area where ten gangs are active.

The median age of ACAM students is 8 years old. By engaging in our positive activities at an early age, youth will be better able to avoid the lure of negative influences.

ACAM Welcomes Julianna Bulgarelli

Julianna Bulgarelli joins ACAM as a teaching artist in dance. R aised in Pasadena, California, Julianna quickly fell in love with ballet and tap dance at just three years old. She began her professional training at The Colburn School's "Professional Training Program." She graduated with a BFA in the Dance Program from Ailey/Fordham University magna cum laude with Honors in Spanish Studies.

As a full-time member of JUNTOS Collective, Julianna taught modern dance workshops with dance schools and communities in Mexico, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, including Ballet Folklorico Tradicional del Estado de Oaxaca, Don Bosco orphanage for girls, Academia Nicaraguense de la Danza and NicaPhoto non-profit after-school program from 2012-2015.

As an assistant teacher for the Junior Division of The Ailey School, she taught ballet and tap classes. She also led outreach workshops in NYC at the Hearthstone Alzheimer Center.

ACAM Winter Session Begins

Students and teachers are ready to begin the Winter Session February 1 with classes in Baile Folklorico, Ballet, Dance, Chorus, Drums, Flute, Guitar, Piano, Recorder, Theatre, Theory, Trombone and Violin.

Ensembles include Wind and String Orchestra and Guitar, Recorder and Percussion Ensemble.

Woodstock Duo Performs in Concert

Gluck Fellows: Annie on cello and David on Guitar

The Woodstock Duo in concert is presented by Gluck Fellows with Annie on cello and David on guitar. The performance is February 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the ACAM Auditorium.

Gluck Fellows of the USC Thorton School of Music provide community members with the opportunity to hear live music in venues where they naturally live.

The concert is free and open to the students, friends and families of the Pico Union neighborhood.
