May, 2015

It is a busy time of year, as home owners look to get their homes ready for the warm weather and decide to take on that next major renovation.

Thankfully, Dawson continues to expand and is blessed to have continued fast, steady growth. We have you to thank for your referrals and repeat business. We have taken various steps to help us keep up with our growth, while still providing you with the customer service you deserve:
  • We have hired four new quality employees to help with accounting/billing, carpentry, electrical, painting, and project management.
  • We recently reorganized our business to concentrate on the small business needs as well as the larger project requirements.
  • We recently changed our banking arrangement to BarringtonBank and Trust because of their strong service image. We also instituted new accounting practices to better serve our customers.
  • We recently renovated our showroom. We increased the showroom size, added a new cabinet line with displays, added a new large monitor to show customers online products during consultations, added new granite, stone, hardware, and window displays... all to help our customers improve their decision and design process.

We hope to stay up with our continued growth and customer needs, with our increased quality staff and improved processes.

As always, if you have any questions or need any assistance with your home, please give us a call.

Happy Spring!

Thanks,
John

Five Interesting "Do it yourself" Tips for Your Home

Spring has sprung!!

As the weather warms up,  it is the optimal time to perform some quick outdoor and indoor maintenance checks! Get your home ready for spring and summer.

  1. Make sure your air conditioning unit is ready for use. Inspect and turn on your AC unit on a day that it is over 70 degrees, before you really need it on those hot days.
  2. Remember to replace your furnace filters for your air conditioning Unit. It is as important for the cooling system as it is for the heating system. A dirty filter can lower the efficiency of your home's HVAC system.
  3. Verify that the fire extinguishers, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, or fire alarms are all in proper working condition with new batteries and clear of debris. Also check that you have a smoke and carbon monoxide detector in your utility room and within 15 feet of each bedroom. This helps to guarantee they are ready for use when necessary.
  4. Clean the clothes dryer vent, exhaust duct, and space under the dryer. Remove all lint, dust, and pieces of material to help avoid potential sparks or fire.
  5. To avoid insect infestations, you can purchase insect spray that can be attached to your garden hose to create a barrier around the perimeter of your house. Here is a photo of the product that I use for my house in the spring.

By completing this quick checklist of maintenance items, you will be ready to enjoy Spring inside or outside your home.

Happy Spring!

The Smart Home Industry

W hat's happening in the Smart Home industry?
According to a leading research company, smart home market was predicted to reach $12.81 billion by 2020 with an estimated growing r ate of 11.36 % be tween 2014 and 2020.

Dawson still  be lieves and  predicts that in 10 years, similar to how everyone carries a cell phone now , every home will have some sor t of Smart Home equipment.

Most  likely yo u rec eived the advertisements or have seen how most businesses are selling their version of the Smart Home...Home Depot, Walmart, Best Buy, ADT and Comcast all have a solution.

Most recently, Googl e purchased Nest  and  our prediction is that Apple  will buy some other competitor soon.  Dawson has installed both Insteo n and Nest s ystems for our customers, who like to monitor inside their homes, while they ar e traveling.

Anoth er new exciting technology for the home is Tesla's $3,000 to $3,500 Powerwall system for homeowners (the price depends on the size of the system, either the 7-kWh or 10-kWh version). The battery system can be used during the day when energy costs are high and the battery can be charged over night when energy costs are lower. This can provide a great  savings on your monthly energy bill. Read more about their system here
